Possible to make HIVE a full time job

avatar

Hello SPIers, In my personal life, as soon as someone hears im invested in crypto, they always ask the same question "Do you make money from it?"

This answer is simple "Yes, I make money from crypto" but explaining how I make money is the hard answer. I always tell them I write blog posts and provide liquidity for markets. Thats as simple as I can make it.

When someone asks me what to invest in, I tell them "Just buy BTC and hold it for years" I would not even start to try and explain how HIVE works cause it's just pure information overload and people shy away. Better to get them on BTC to dip their toes into crypto instead.

The fact of the matter is I dont really make any money from HIVE, none of us do. It's all just pocket change. 90% of the money I make from crypto is outside of HIVE. Being so involved with HIVE makes it feel like I make money from it until I look at the numbers. 30 mins per week spent on Pancakeswap, Uniswap and Raydium makes alot more and is 100 times easier than spending a few hours on HIVE each day.

It's sad to see that even the biggest content creators on HIVE would struggle to make a living from content rewards. I would say it's not even possible. Depending on where you live in the world, your living costs are different but if we said $850 per week pre-tax is an average full-time job. Thats 5000 HIVE a week just to get by without additional money for saving. Nobody on HIVE is earning 5000 HIVE per week (Maybe a few that receive DHF funding do) and thats a big problem. I understand HIVE is down now but even at 50 cents, you'd need to earn 1700 a week.

The content is shit, it's just that simple. There is no incentive to produce good content because the reward pool is capped and content rewards are paid once after 1 week. 80% of content is about either HIVE, LEO, Splinterlands are Actifit all tagged to collect autovotes. User interaction is non-existent and after a week, that content is dead to the author cause its paid out already. Im not saying my content is any better because, like you, all I do is sit down and start writing. I dont plan content on HIVE, I dont do research before I write a post, and I dont even have a thumbnail are a title in mind. I think of a topic to jump-start with and then write until I hit 1000 words and job done. I might have Google open on another window to fact-check things as im writing.

On other platforms, people will put alot of effort and time into content. Some people on Reddit will spend 3-4 weeks researching and writing drafts before they publish a post. People on YouTube will spend countless hours planning, recording and editing before uploading. They do this for no monetary gain, the incentive might be to share information, build a community or grow influence within their space. They put the work in because they know their content can be seen by thousands are even more people.

If HIVE were to grow to a small 1 million active users posting content, the reward pool would remain the same and be split between more people. I think it would be a wild claim to say 10k people are day are uploading to HIVE but if there were, jumping to 1 million active bloggers would on paper reduce your HIVE rewards by 99% cause 100 times more users.

Maybe im wrong about that but I dont think I am. You could go from earning 100 HIVE a week to earning 1 HIVE a week if we were to have a small tiny 1 million active bloggers. What if we had 50-100 million users, lol

The wrap it all up, it's not likely that HIVE will ever recover its lost users are gain many new ones because there is no incentive. The numbers are too small, not enough users, not enough interaction, no influence and no financial reward. If the numbers were big, the reward would be worthless even for top content producers.

I actaully feel kinda sad right now.

Yes. Hive is my Full Time Job. $1,000 a day = $ 365,000 per year … thanks to YouTube and Amazon.com and a few affiliates of course. It’s all about YouTube Shorts. Infinite earnings for ever. Lots of YouTube Shorts Creators are making $10,000 a month. Even if you get everything downvoted to zero on Day 7. It’s worth it to post YouTube Shorts here on Hive.

I have a youtube channel and avoid doing shorts. But yes, you can make alot from youtube with AI curated content.

Yes. Many people hate YouTube Shorts. Some people love them. Maybe it’s also the AI robots watching them ?

SPI converted all its STEEM into BTC when HIVE was created and its like 6x better. Cant go wrong with BTC. Glad to hear you are savvy enough to invest your HVIE earnings properly 🚀

Hive has all the potential of becoming a full-time job

but will we ever see that potential without simple things like SMT's are being listed on more exchanges? If Binance were to pull HIVE, it would be game over.

It's kinda depressing to hear the "sad facts" about Hive from one of the top Hive project managers!!

Top HIVE project manager! 😳

It is sad to see but HIVE will probally still last for another 20 years. Right now, we dont see new people joining. This post was a little bit of a rant, lol

I felt more than a bit sad after reading this. But then I watched a the Miss Bitcoin presentation from Hivefest and felt inspired enough to start blogging again. I'm thinking of using it more to gather my thoughts than as a money maker and to reconnect with a few people who are still around I've lost touch with otherwise.

I've yet to write the post though so we'll see.

It's hard getting back on the posting wagon, i try on my personal account from time to time but cant be bothered, I have so many posts sitting in drafts its crazy.

Sadly there's no incentive on HIVE to create really good content, which means spending more than 2-3 hours on a post. No incentive cause the post reward is after 7 days. If it were every 7 days instead, we'd be more likely to create better evergreen content.

I'd say if you could good content rewards, go for it. Even for 6-12 months when the price of HIVE is low and you can get more rewarded.

Yeah. I have a number of half done posts in drafts that will never get finished now since they're not really relevant to me nowadays. Some go back over a year. 😂

My intial enthusiasm from when I replied this morning is already waning. Just call me fickle. 😂

It's the community interaction I miss most though.

You could build a business, a game or provide a service on HIVE. I think "blog and earn" is a feature during Hive's token distribution phase, but it won't be forever. With millions of users, we'd have people providing services in exchange for HIVE as well as Paywalls like the INLEO creator subscription that @khaleelkazi just announced at @hivefest on day 1.

There are many ways to make money in crypto, but blogging full-time on HIVE is not a high probability one in my humble opinion. Sure, there are a few outliers, but I'd bet on trying a business approach and design a solution to a problem. But I'm a business guy, so I might be biased.

Creator Subscriptions are going to completely change the monetization matrix of users on Hive

we need to maybe consider looking at moving away from HIVE in the next cycle. It may sound controversial as we run many of our operations through the hive platform, but there could be better options for a BTC conversion next cycle imo.

If the proof of brain does not work, will the rewards have to be reallocated to more DHF or to a new mechanism that does not exist yet? This is very disheartening to read. But then again it is truth. I am curious to see what will happen.
