The World Was Never Meant To Be Stable
Is there really anything unethical about loving good things? Heheh, I honestly don't think so, I mean, who literally doesn't want the best for themselves and their future children? I feel it's just natural or is it just me feeling it should be?
Do you know we already have this machine? Lol! Maybe it's because I am in health line but yes, we already have a gene editing technology called CRISPR-Cas9 which is able to theoretically edit human embryos to your taste especially with respect of removing disease-causing mutations.
Humans are blessed beyond measures and gifted in various areas of life, but here's the thing, If there's any limitation humans face in life, it's about the uncertainty of life. We're so uncertain about life that we don't even know what will happen to us in the next second, it's that bad.
So personally, I think that if humans were to be granted to shape what their future children will be, it'll be a big boost even though that will be shaking the stability of the world.... Maybe the world was designed to work in instabilities though.. where there's the rich, the poor, the ugly, the evil, the good, the talented, the gifted and the empty, lol
On a deeper thoughts, I think it'll be termed good or bad depending on what we are exactly trying to achieve:
We stand to have many good returns from having this ability especially in terms of elimination of genetic diseases and chronic diseases, standing chance of having advanced abilities almost like aliens, lol.
Image Is Mine
But on the other hand, the balance of the world may start to wobble. We also have lots of cons that may result from that including but not limited to loss of diversity, unintended consequences and obviously, let's not even talk about inequality, if genetic editing becomes a privilege only the rich can afford, then what have we achieved? The diseases ain't restricted to the rich alone or are they? We might just be creating not just a financial gap but a biological gap too which sounds scary.
Will it be Ethical?
Ethics has always been a battle of intent. What's the intention of the gene editing you want to do? Knowing this alone defines the ethicality of it.
For someone who wants to do gene editing to remove chronic diseases, I obviously don't see anything unethical about it and I doubt you see any too because I believe no one ever wants to see their child suffer from what they could have prevented if they had the means. But if someone wants to do gene editing to enhance someone's intelligence just to make him a tool for massive destruction, that! I think is very unethical.
How then do you know who's got the best interest at hand?
In the end, it's all about what kind of world and humans we really want to leave behind... One that's better than the one we had or one more chaotic than the one we're already in.
Thanks for reading and have a nice day ahead 👍

Hello, Doc. It is interesting to know that the machine already exists. It would be really nice to eliminate genetic diseases and illnesses before a child is born. Parents go through a lot raising kids who have diseases. I guess if it is for this reason, then it is ethical.
I guess so
I guessed as much that the machine would already be in existence. After all, there is already gender selection procedures already.
The intent matters but so does the pocket. Of course with a machine like this,it is definitely those with loads of cash that would take the Frontline and like you rightly said, the biological gap would be so scary to comprehend.
So sad life is all about money
Yeah
