Adequate Hydration: A habit you should build
"Pure water is the world's first and foremost medicine"– Slovakian Proverb.
Health is wealth as we all know and in moments of ill-health, we are willing to let go of huge amounts of wealth to get us back again to 💯.
Of course, we're humans and will definitely fall sick as it's part of life but then, we can reduce the severity and the number of times by adhering to few health tips we might have been ignoring or oblivious of...
Prevention is better than cure they say👍
As someone who literally spends greater part of my day in the hospital, I've come to see a lot of patients that would never have been admitted and probably undergone the surgery they did only if they drank enough water.
As cheap as it may look, (although economy is making it look as if it's costly though but still...), drinking enough water is a great health tip for taking care of our body.
We often neglect it because we don't spend thousands of money to get that, however, if we knew how effective it is for our health, we would not only take it seriously but also, set alarm as to when we will drink water whether we're thirsty or not.
- Did you know the urethral is referred to as a sterile tract?
Come to think of it, urethral is the passage through which we excrete urine; urine isn't clean, but then, the urethral is sterile, do you know why?
It's because when you drink enough water, the urethral utilises that in constantly washing away pathogens that would have thrived in the urine, that's why whenever there's any condition that will cause stasis (prolonged stay of urine) along the urethral tract leads to a lot of health complications.
Now imagine what will happen when you don't drink enough water?
It literally means that the pathogens will have enough time to lodge along the tracts causing several health complications.
- Did You Know About Urolithiasis?
Urolithiasis, also called Kidney stones are hard deposits formed inside the kidney and consists of minerals and salts.
Ideally, when there is enough water, these minerals and salts are excreted perfectly fine but then, when there is a state of dehydration, these minerals and salts starts forming crystals.
These crystals adhere to the urinary tract walls and might lodge in the ureteral walls causing ureteral stenosis stenosis (reducing the lumen of ureter) and the person starts experiencing severe, sharp pains or burning sensation whenever he or she wants to urinate amidst other symptoms.
This is a condition that in worst case scenario leads to surgical treatment and could be easily prevented just by taking enough water.
- Did You Also Know That One Of The Greatest Treatment For Vaso-Occlusive Crisis Is Hydration?
Vaso-occlusive crisis is a medical condition where the blood flow is obstructed by abnormal red blood cells blocking it leading to deprived oxygen and causing severe pain.
It mostly happens in sickle cell anaemia patients.
When these patients present, there are 3 key treatments given to them and one of them is hydration, but this time around isn't just hydration but hyperhydration, that's to tell you how important drinking water is.
When they are discharged, they are also advised to always drink water liberally by giving them a particular target to finish each day as this helps reduce the number of times they suffer the crisis.
Water is one of the greatest medicine but often neglected because it is cheap, however, I believe that we all will prefer drinking water to undergoing surgery, so why not start the hydration journey today?
Thanks for reading and have a nice day.
Wow, it was a good medical Advice. To save myself from urinary tract infection, I love to drink as much water as I can. Urolithiasis looked dangerous disease because no one wants to get infection from the urination site.

Drinking enough water is very important to the human body, but then my big mummy said it has its side effects also, like weight reduction.
Really? It's my first hearing of that as a side effect
I'll look it up
I drink water as much as possible especially in the middle of the night whenever I feel like eating.
I actually learnt the importance of drinking water on a regular basis from my secondary school housemaster. Whenever we go to him to complain we have headache, the man will tell us to go drink a cup of water and rest. Surprisingly, it worked in most cases.
Hehe, that was a great lesson.
Drinking water is cool
Water is hydrating, and it is the source of life. It helps me to lower my blood sugar levels, (I am diabetic), also drinking water helped me to expel stones in my kidneys.
That's another great ability of the water also In management of a diabetic patient.
It'll really go a long way
My biggest challenge is drinking water especially when I am at home, I have been warned several times to take enough water. I will have to set Target on the amount of water I take in daily. Thank you for bringing it to our notice
Hehe, I understand that.
Most persons find it difficult to just liberally drink water So I understand it when you're in that group, however, it'll be nice if you set target.... It'll help a lot
The importance of staying hydrated cannot be overemphasized, I have witnessed it once and since then I learnt my lesson.
Hehe, hopefully the lesson we learnt will ring bell in our heads avoiding us from making the same mistake again
There are a lot of health benefits to drinking water and it is really important to make it a habit. I enjoy drinking water and just do it even when I don't need it sometimes.
I drink it very early to get my day started and it helps a lot. Great point buddy.
That's another way to look at it... Early morning drinking of water.
You're welcome
Am sure this counsel is coming from a medical practitioner that makes it more interesting to read. The basic knowledge I know is that drinking water is so good for the body and we are encouraged to take warm water first thing in the morning. I just remembered, while I was dedicated to this my stomach fat was gone, but now they just came back.
I should go back to this water therapy practice. Thank you so much for sharing
Hehe, it is indeed.
You're welcome dear... Hopefully, we spend more in eating what we love other than drugs
The day I found out about kidney stones many years ago was the day I started drinking water frequently like a fish 😂 Many people don't know about it and I believe they will also take this advice of always staying hydrated seriously if they find out
Indeed, kidney stones is not an illness someone Will allow to get to him or her because there is a preventive measure
I never fail to drink atleast 2-5 litres of clean water a day..
It keeps me hydrated and makes my skin fresh.
It also helps my circulation and prevents veins collapse
I always tell my younger ones that, taking lots of water will help your body system in a long way, they always think my own is too much. Thanks for sharing this.
You're welcome man
I was well acknowledged about the thing you shared and I know the importance of it. But you presented the whole thing in a beautiful way and I really appreciate how you presented it.
