Si deseas ver una película de suspenso, estrés psicológico y algo de terror te recomiendo The home, la vi recientemente ya que es una película nueva del año 2025 y dura alrededor de una hora y media.

La historia comienza cuando Max nuestro protagonista es un niño dulce muy apegado a su hermano mayor que luego de irse a la universidad fallece, esa noticia cambia por completo a Max convirtiéndolo con los años en un joven con problemas de conducta, sin embargo tiene la suerte de tener unos padres adoptivos que lo quieren y apoyan porque gracias a su intervención ha salido airoso de la cárcel. Esa fue la primera impresión pero nada es lo que parece.

En su último acto de rebeldía por pintar grafitis, Max es obligado a cumplir horas comunitarias en un hogar para ancianos. Un espacio tenebroso que guarda oscuros secretos que ponen en peligro a los huéspedes y al propio Max.

El cuidado de ancianos y el trato que reciben es un tema sensible para mí, porque lo hago a diario con mi abuela y sé lo difícil y delicado que es, cuando observe que el ancianato sería el ambiente final de la película me preparé para que no me afectará tanto, sin embargo fue en vano nada de lo que imaginaba sucedió, con giros inesperados la película me sorprendió mucho.

El trabajo de Max era de mantenimiento y limpieza del área, porque los ancianos se veían bastante bien, saludables y con un espíritu alegre, hacían deporte y muchas actividades recreativas, justamente detrás de tantas belleza es donde se esconden los secretos y Max que ya se había encariñado con algunos ancianos se entera de las cosas extrañas que no debían suceder.

En esta película el maquillaje es algo importante porque ayuda al espectador notar el paso del tiempo, ya que con el pasar de los días Max se ve más desencajado, ojeroso y enfermo, signos de un mal descanso y otras cosas que suceden, también en los momentos de terror y gore el maquillaje ayuda a elevar la impresión de la escena.

Aunque el final no fue de mi agrado considero que pudieron cerrar de otra forma más congruente con toda la historia, pero lo anterior no elimina los buenos minutos de tensión y estrés de toda la película ni lo interesante de la historia que mezclan la realidad de la vida e inevitable vejez con el miedo a envejecer, las creencias religiosas y ritos espeluznantes.

If you want to watch a suspenseful film with psychological tension and a touch of horror, I recommend The Home. I saw it recently, as it is a new film from 2025 and lasts about an hour and a half.

The story begins when Max, our protagonist, is a sweet boy attached to his older brother who dies after going to university. This news completely changes Max, turning him into a young man with behavioural problems over the years. However, he is lucky to have adoptive parents who love and support him because, thanks to their intervention, he has successfully avoided prison. That was the first impression, but nothing is what it seems.

In his latest act of rebellion for painting graffiti, Max is forced to do community service in a nursing home. It is a gloomy place that holds dark secrets that endanger the residents and Max himself.

Caring for the elderly and the treatment they receive is a sensitive issue for me, because I do it every day with my grandmother and I know how difficult and delicate it is. When I realised that the nursing home would be the final setting of the film, I prepared myself so that it wouldn't affect me so much, but it was in vain. Nothing I imagined happened, and with unexpected twists and turns, the film pleasantly surprised me.

Max's job was to maintain and clean the area, because the elderly looked quite well, healthy and cheerful. They played sports and did many recreational activities. It is precisely behind so much beauty that secrets are hidden, and Max, who had already become fond of some of the elderly, learns about strange things that should not be happening.

In this film, the make-up is important because it helps the viewer notice the passage of time, as with each passing day Max looks more dishevelled, haggard and ill, signs of poor rest and other things that happen. Also, in moments of terror and gore, the make-up helps to heighten the impression of the scene.

Although I did not like the ending, I think they could have ended it in a way that was more consistent with the whole story, but this does not detract from the good moments of tension and stress throughout the film, nor from the interesting story that mixes the reality of life and inevitable old age with the fear of ageing, religious beliefs and creepy rituals.
