Solemos juzgar a las personas por sus actos y catalogarlos según los hechos, hay actos malvados que parecen estar motivados por la piedad, la empatía y la generosidad. Asumir la responsabilidad por otros puede verse como un acto de humildad y amor. En esta película del género terror psicológico y estrés psicológico basada en hechos reales pude ver una línea muy delgada entre el bien y el mal, que me hizo cuestionar mi moral y mis principios sobre el amor, la vida y la maldad.

Reseña

Se trata de la historia de Karoline una chica que trabajó con Dagmar Overbye una asesina en serie de bebés durante los años 1913 a 1920, la historia está ambientada en esa época de guerra, hambre y frío, con escenas en blanco y negro que le dan más dramatismo al relato.

Inicia con Karoline que está sola y a punto de perder el lugar donde vive alquilada por falta de pago, no puede cobrar la pensión de viudez de su esposo que se fue a la guerra, ya que no ha sido declarado muerto de forma oficial. Se vio obligada a mudarse y a vivir en condiciones precarias mientras trabajaba como costurera en una industria. Como no recibía respuesta ni información de su esposo lo cree muerto y comienza un romance con el dueño de la industria quien la ilusiona con una nueva vida, dejándose seducir, Karoline decidió creer en la promesa y por hambre o soledad se entregó por completo sin pensar en las consecuencias embarazándose.

En este breve episodio sentí que la cenicienta había encontrado a su príncipe, un hombre culto, millonario y de buen corazón, yo misma caí de ingenua en creer que podía ser posible esta relación, ya que este hombre tenía una discapacidad motriz en una pierna, marcando un equilibrio en los dos, pero duró poco, aunque él parecía amarla tardó en llevarla a su casa y presentarla a la madre, quien la conoció con un estado avanzado de embarazo y por ese motivo no pudo interrumpir la gestación, pero eso no evitó que pusiera condiciones para que ambos se separaran y el dinero pudo más que el amor.

Karoline con el corazón roto, sin empleo, sin dinero y a punto de dar a luz, se encuentra desesperada y recurre a una medida desesperada donde las agujas de tejer son un elemento protagonista, tendrás que ver la película si deseas poner imágenes a lo que estás pensando. Siempre que estás en un punto de no retorno, Dios manda sus ángeles para ayudarte, y aquí es donde aparece Dagmar para evitar una tragedia mayor, cuida a Karoline y le da un consejo, que si no puede criar a su hijo es mejor que lo dé en adopción a una familia que sí lo quiera y le dé una vida mejor.

Karoline sin desarrollar instinto maternal mantiene al bebé con ella y con su esposo que regresó de la guerra desfigurada, traumado y sin dinero, este hombre aunque por fuera parecía un monstruo en su interior es una persona de buenos sentimientos que quiere a la bebé, la protege y desea cuidarla con a un padre. Se presenta la paradoja de que un hombre lindo por fuera puede ser horrible en su interior, cabe la comparación de los dos hombres que han estado con Karoline, ella decide entregar a su hija con la señora Dagmar, y después de unos días se arrepiente, pero ya es demasiado tarde, pero ella siente que hizo lo mejor por el bien del bebé y se hace amiga de Dagmar trabajando junto a ella en su negocio de dulces.

Estando cerca de Dagmar es que se conoce la suerte de todos los bebés que llegan a su cuidado, liberando a las madres con embarazos no deseados de su responsabilidad al hacerles creer que será mejor para todos porque tendrán una nueva oportunidad, solo que Karoline comenzó a indagar y descubrió la verdad.

Pensamientos finales

Aunque es una historia del siglo pasado, no deja de ser atemporal porque embarazos no deseados los hay cada día, madres en condiciones extremas de pobreza también. Dagmar pensó que estaba haciendo un acto de amor, librando a las madres y sus hijos del dolor de vivir, o tal vez detrás de todo eso estaba su verdadera motivación: poseer el control de otras vidas.

La fotografía fue hermosa, las escenas en matices grises le dan a la historia una sensación lúgubre de miedo y dolor.

Las actuaciones estuvieron equilibradas, tanto de las protagonistas como del esposo de Karoline. Personajes que se muestran duros, sin dolor extremo, porque la vida ha sido difícil de llevar y cuando se muestran vulnerables te pueden sacar lágrimas.

Creo que en esta película no hay verdaderos culpables, solo buenas y malas decisiones, cada quien maneja el dolor de diferentes formas y no me siento capaz de sentenciar Dagmar.

Es una película que volvería a ver en el futuro, por todas las emociones que me dio: ilusión, tristeza, amor, pasión, lástima, rencor, asombro, ira, compasión, miedo y paz. Recomiendo verla sobre todo por estar inspirada en hechos reales y por la calidad de su producción.

Review

This is the story of Karoline, a girl who worked with Dagmar Overbye, a serial killer of babies between 1913 and 1920. The story is set in that era of war, hunger and cold, with black and white scenes that add drama to the story.

It begins with Karoline, who is alone and about to lose the place she rents due to non-payment, as she cannot collect her husband's widow's pension because he went to war and has not been officially declared dead. She was forced to move and live in precarious conditions while working as a seamstress in a factory. As she received no response or information from her husband, she assumes he is dead and begins an affair with the factory owner, who entices her with the promise of a new life. Allowing herself to be seduced, Karoline decides to believe in the promise and, out of hunger or loneliness, gives herself completely without thinking about the consequences, becoming pregnant.

In this brief episode, I felt that Cinderella had found her prince, a cultured, millionaire man with a good heart. I myself fell into the naivety of believing that this relationship could be possible, as this man had a motor disability in one leg, creating a balance between the two of them. but it did not last long. Although he seemed to love her, he took a long time to take her home and introduce her to his mother, who met her when she was already in an advanced stage of pregnancy and for that reason could not terminate the pregnancy. However, that did not prevent her from setting conditions for them to separate, and money prevailed over love.

Karoline, heartbroken, unemployed, penniless and about to give birth, finds herself desperate and resorts to a desperate measure where knitting needles play a leading role. You'll have to watch the film if you want to put images to what you're thinking. Whenever you reach a point of no return, God sends his angels to help you, and this is where Dagmar appears to prevent a greater tragedy. She takes care of Karoline and gives her some advice: if she can't raise her child, it's better to give him up for adoption to a family who will love him and give him a better life.

Karoline, without developing maternal instincts, keeps the baby with her and her husband, who returned from the war disfigured, traumatised and penniless. This man, although he looked like a monster on the outside, is a kind-hearted person on the inside who loves the baby, protects her and wants to care for her like a father. The paradox arises that a man who is handsome on the outside can be horrible on the inside. Comparing the two men who have been with Karoline, she decides to give her daughter to Mrs Dagmar, and after a few days she regrets it, but it is too late. However, she feels that she did the best thing for the baby and becomes friends with Dagmar, working alongside her in her sweet business.

Being close to Dagmar, she learns about the fate of all the babies who come into her care, freeing mothers with unwanted pregnancies from their responsibility by making them believe that it will be better for everyone because they will have a new opportunity. However, Karoline began to investigate and discovered the truth.

Final thoughts

Although it is a story from the last century, it is still timeless because unwanted pregnancies exist every day, as do mothers in extreme poverty. Dagmar thought she was doing an act of love, freeing mothers and their children from the pain of living, or perhaps behind all that was her true motivation: to have control over other lives.

The photography was beautiful, with scenes in shades of grey giving the story a sombre feeling of fear and pain.

The performances were balanced, both from the protagonists and Karoline's husband. The characters come across as tough, without extreme pain, because life has been difficult for them, and when they show vulnerability, it can bring tears to your eyes.

I believe that in this film there are no real culprits, only good and bad decisions. Everyone deals with pain in different ways, and I do not feel capable of judging Dagmar.

It is a film that I would watch again in the future, because of all the emotions it gave me: excitement, sadness, love, passion, pity, resentment, amazement, anger, compassion, fear and peace. I recommend watching it, above all because it is inspired by real events and because of the quality of its production.
