Today I want to show you the Christmas present I gave my pet, which will improve this little animal's life at home and bring peace of mind to my family. I was worried about his old bed, which was a mat in poor condition that couldn't withstand another wash and provided virtually no cushioning for Duke's 13 kilos.

As he is an 8-year-old pet and we can now say that he has entered his old age, I wanted him to sleep better without his body coming into contact with the floor, so I searched for options on the Internet and found a model that I liked, the same one that appears in the screenshot images. At first, I thought about buying it, but the price was too high for me, so I decided to have one made.

¡Feliz Navidad! Espero que hayan pasado una Nochebuena rodeada de sus familiares llenos de salud y prosperidad. El día de hoy quiero mostrarles el regalo de Navidad que le hice a mi mascota y que mejorará la vida de este animalito en el hogar, trayendo tranquilidad a su familia porque yo tenía la angustia por su antigua cama, que era una colchoneta y la cual estaba en mal estado, ya no aguantaba una lavada más y prácticamente no amortiguaba los 13 kilos de Duke.

Como es una mascota que tiene 8 años y ya podemos decir que entró en la etapa de vejez, quería que durmiera mejor sin que su cuerpo tuviera contacto con el piso, así que estuve buscando opciones por Internet y encontré un modelo que me gustó, el mismo que aparece en las imágenes de captura de pantalla, al principio pensé comprarlo, pero el precio es muy elevado para mí alcancé, por eso se me ocurrió mandarle hacer.

I asked a blacksmith who had done work for us at home before, showed him the model, and asked if he could make a similar one and how much it would cost. The man said yes, that he would charge me 30 $ and that a friend who was an auto upholsterer could sew the fabric for 10 $ if I got the material, which cost me £4. I thought it was a good price, since buying it online would cost me 80 $.

Le pregunté a un herrero que antes nos había hecho trabajos en casa, le mostré el modelo y pregunté sí podía hacer una parecida y su precio. El señor sin duda me dijo que sí, que me cobraría 30 $ y que un amigo tapicero de autos podía coser la tela en 10 $ si yo conseguía el material que me costó 4 $. Me pareció un buen precio, ya que comprando en Internet me costaría 80 $.

My initial idea

It was a bed that could be carried and moved from one place to another, that wasn't too heavy, could be taken apart, and could be washed. I told him that the legs could be folded inwards to make it flat, and when it was time to use it, the legs could be pulled out. The canvas I bought is washable, and my intention is that every time I bathe Duke, I can take the bed apart, remove the canvas and wash it, so that the bed's tubes don't get wet and rust.

I also wanted Duke's body to be suspended in the air and not touch the floor once he lay down, so I measured the dog's size, and the blacksmith gave me the perfect height for the bed.

Mi idea inicial

Era una cama que se pudiera cargar y mover de un lugar a otro, que no fuera tan pesada, desarmable y que se pudiera lavar. Le indiqué que las patas se pudieran plegar hacia adentro para ponerla en posición plana y cuando se fuera utilizar se sacarán las patas. La lona que compré es lavable, y mi intención es que cada vez que bañe a Duke, pueda desarmar la cama, sacar la lona y lavarla, y así no mojar los tubos de la cama para que no se oxiden.

También quería que una vez acostado Duke, su cuerpo quedará suspendido en el aire y que no tocará el piso, para eso medí el tamaño del perro, y el herrero me dio la altura perfecta que tenía que tener la cama.

Final result

The bed was tested before delivery. The gentleman brought it to me, and Duke lay down on it immediately. He knew it belonged to him 🤣. We noticed that the canvas was too loose and needed to be sewn tighter.

With the modification, it was ready, and my dog had a kind of hammock to sleep in. Once it was ready, I worried about how cold he might get, especially when he is shaved, so my mum gave him a large, thick, white towel 😫. He was happy with his new things, but the downside is that when Duke gets up, he walks around the house with the towel in his mouth. I'll have to wash this towel by hand, something I don't even do with my own towels, but in conclusion, everyone at home is happy with the new acquisition and Duke is more spoiled than ever. This year I didn't have a Christmas tree, but I did have a bed for Duke 😆.

Resultado final

La cama tuvo una prueba antes de su entrega, el señor me la trajo y Duke se acostó inmediatamente, él sabía que esto le pertenecía 🤣, pudimos observar que la lona estaba muy suelta y que debía cocerse más templada.

Con la modificación quedó lista, y mi perrito tenía una especie de hamaca para dormir, una vez que estuvo lista me preocupe del frío que podía pasar, sobre todo cuando se afeita y mi mamá le regaló una toalla grande, gruesa y blanca 😫, él estaba feliz con sus nuevos objetos, lo malo es que Duke al levantarse recorre la casa con la toalla en su hocico. Me tocará lavar a mano esta toalla, algo que no hago ni con mis propias toallas, pero en conclusión todos en casa estamos felices con la nueva adquisición y Duke más consentido que nunca, este año no tuve árbol de Navidad pero sí cama para Duke 😆.
