Artificial Art, An Experiment [ENG/ESP]

Without a doubt, artificial intelligence is becoming more and more present in our days and it has come to stay. Many people, including myself, have been scared at some point or at least surprised by its potential in practically any sphere of life.
Art does not escape the influence of AI, and it is perhaps there where we can find the most divided and distant opinions. Many artists claim that AI comes with a loss of the authenticity of creation itself and personal expression as the pinnacle of creativity, not to mention the risk of being replaced in the workplace. Another extremely controversial aspect has been the ethical problems behind the data with which these AIs have been created, often without the consent of the authors of the works. To this, we can add that its access is quite unequal, increasing an already existing gap in the artistic field.
But not everything is negative. We can find several artists who see AI as one more tool for the development and improvement of skills, shortening times and expanding capabilities. From my personal point of view, I like to explore the different possibilities and combine as many tools as I have at hand, because I love experimenting with the creative process and an AI will not deprive me of this.
Today I want to do a little experiment: I will use 3 free AIs to create images and I will try to create, using a prompt generated by AI, 5 famous paintings without mentioning that they are inspired by existing works or their names. Let's see how similar they turn out. Will you join me?
The AIs used will be Microsoft's Copilot, MuryouAi, and Leonardo.Ai. The chosen works are:
Work | Prompt |
---|---|
Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci | A woman with a serene and enigmatic expression sits with her hands crossed, wearing a dark dress with pleats and a subtle veil. The background shows a landscape with a winding road and distant hills, under a slightly cloudy sky. |
The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci | Jesus and his twelve apostles are seated at a long table in a large room, with Jesus in the center and the apostles grouped in threes, showing various expressions of surprise and conversation, under soft lighting that highlights their faces and clothing. |
Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh | A vibrant, swirling night sky with bright stars and a crescent moon, in the foreground, there is a dark cypress and the silhouette of a village with rooftops and a church, with a palette of deep blue colors and swirls of yellow and white. |
The Scream by Edvard Munch | A central human figure with an expression of anguish and hands on the face is on a bridge, with a background of reddish and turbulent sky, full of vibrant and contrasting colors, while two distant figures are in the background of the bridge. |
The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo | God's hand extends to touch the hand of a man reclining on the ground, creating an almost electric contact, with God surrounded by angels and a floating robe, while the man is naked, symbolizing the creation of man, all on a background that mixes soft tones and vivid colors. |

After seeing the results from each AI, I can draw several conclusions. The first is that my favorite, and the one I find with the best results, is Microsoft's Copilot. It not only offers images more faithful to my description and the expected result but also adds a more artistic and unique touch that sets it apart from typical generated images. The worst results were obtained with Leonardo.IA, which even generated meaningless images, such as in the case of The Last Supper. Undoubtedly, the days of abstract shapes and nonsensical hands are over. AI still has a way to go and may lack the spark that human creativity provides. It might achieve it in a short time, or maybe it never will.
Even so, we must respect human artists and consider them because they will never be replaced. Their work and learning time are invaluable. Thanks to their work, directly or indirectly, the AI for image generation is at this astonishing point. So, I ask you to always support traditional artists and respect their work.

¿Me acompañan?
Las IA utilizadas serán Copilot de Microsoft, MuryouAi y Leonardo.Ai. Las obras escogidas son:
Obra | Prompt |
---|---|

I apologize if there are any grammatical errors, English is not my native language, I have tried to be as careful as possible.
I regularly create images on Pixabay, which are free of copyright. Access my gallery by clicking here.
All assets, illustrations and banners have been created by me and are original content, unless otherwise specified.
All images in this article were created using the previously mentioned AIs: Microsoft's Copilot, MuryouAi, and Leonardo.Ai.
I use AI art generators to create images for my posts. I must admit it rarely gives me exactly what I want, but it usually delivers something usable (often after several tries....). But I'm aware of the controversy around the way it's trained.
Your experiment is interesting, because what it inadvertently demonstrates is that Microsoft is better at training it's AI, and doesn't care for other people's intellectual property rights in the process. The Michelangeo Creation is pretty much a direct crib from the Vatican ceiling !
I guess it is why more and more businesses which have to maintain client confidentiality are banning their staff from using Copilot and moving to Linux or Mac, where it's not a compulsory installation. I wonder if Microsoft is doing that to be "helpful" or are they using it as a way to rifle through the files on every PC so they can train their AI on them.

Creating the perfect image using AI requires effort and patience through multiple attempts, trial and error. Therefore, I do not consider it an activity devoid of creativity. I have read Microsoft's Privacy Statement, and they assure that they respect intellectual property. If this is the case, I am quite surprised at how well-trained the AI is. Although, if I remember correctly, it is based on previous training with DALL-E, so I still have my reservations. I believe we are still in a period of learning and adaptation, and it is necessary to discuss these topics constructively. Best regards, and thank you for reading and for your support.
