The flora keeps its secrets - travel contest #189: flora

The flora keeps its secrets, just as the white cedar or the thuja occidentalis cones keep their seeds.
(The picture below is my entry to the 189th travel contest with the theme "flora")

It was a few years ago when I first saw this peculiar plant.

First, the shape of its cones looks a bit like little figurines that are expected to be animated at any moment. I swear if I look at them in detail, I can make out tiny faces among them.

I never thought a cone could be shaped like this (you know what the standard shape of a pinecone is, right? It's called a 'cone' anyway.)

Then those particular features that crack the cone.

And what lies beneath them.

Isn't it amazing? Isn't it another unique thing of nature? Aren't we truly blessed with all these unique inventions of nature?

I think we definitely are.
