My Expectations

‎Growing up in Nigeria is very hard, and if you are a Nigerian and you live in Nigeria, then you can survive anywhere. ‎I have a lot of things to ask for, and the absence of these things has really made Nigeria very unbearable. ‎

‎I would really want Nigeria to look into allowing the youths to be in the forefront of leadership. Leadership evolves, and you will not expect to use the same techniques to lead. Politically, it is known that there are systematic ways of leading a state, but because it is Nigeria, we lack the capacity to do leadership systematically. Nigeria has been termed as a "mere geographical expression" by Obafemi Awolowo. This has been proven correct because of how the Nigerian government has been less than forthcoming about what they are supposed to do. ‎ ‎ ‎The insecurity in Nigeria has been something I have started to think is purposely done by the government. It has made me think that the leaders do not care about protecting lives and property. I expect Nigeria to do better in this aspect so that people can feel safe and also be safe. ‎ ‎ ‎Another thing that bleeds my heart is the high rate of unemployment in Nigeria. During my service year, I met children who told me that they would not have anything to do in school and that they prefer acquiring skills that will actually give them what to eat in the future. Those people who are in schools have given up because of the fact that there are no jobs in that country. This has made us lose hope in Nigeria. People do not believe in Nigeria anymore; everyone wants to fend for themselves, as there are no hopes for jobs. This is not supposed to be so. ‎ ‎ ‎Another thing I can ask for from Nigeria will be the eradication of corruption. I think corruption has come to stay, and it is as bad as what we can't explain. I think it is very important that we start living in a society where people follow the laid-down rules and regulations. Nobody should be above the law; everyone is equal, so as such, it will be fair that people who do not adhere to what the law says should be punished. This is not so in Nigeria, as people who are wealthy are above the law. The government punish offenders who are not wealthy but free those people who can give them a lot of money. We run a democratic system of government, but we do not practice what a democratic system should have. This is very disheartening because we just call ourselves what we are not. ‎ ‎ ‎Nigeria would be better if we had these things in place. ‎
