The hidden cost of living in school

This is my entry to the Hive Learners weekly contest.*

Generally the cost of living in my country is absolutely nothing to write home about. Goods and services keep on skyrocketing till who knows when. It's really something that is too much, but what really can we do?

The school environment would always be as such even if things outside tended to be at the minimum; coupled with already being at the top, it would still be added extra in the school.

Although some things are way cheaper, especially in a shop near my hostel where everything there is sold at cost prices, still, there are things at the top of the rock.

There are many unexpected expenses that in my area ordinarily would not be included as expenses. Things that one can get from others in one way or the other, but here in school everything is really business and paid for.

Feeding is one major expense; if one calculated the money spent on food, the person would be a millionaire already. Unlike some areas in which there is school, yet the market seems like a general market people can buy things from. It seems not to be like that in my school, as there is a market just opposite the school gate, which is more like our market, and things are really way more expensive there.

Trying to go to other places requires transportation, in which sometimes after consideration one may decide to just get from there.

Personally, I have a friend that goes to the market, which is every eight days, and really helps me always to buy things that I really need at a cheaper rate from the market.

In a nutshell, I would say that despite the cost, I spent not too much on food items compared to buying from our market. The food items generally in the area are also costly compared to the place in which I am coming from.

Coming to transportation, I would say that coming to school, one thing being missed is entering a vehicle from one place to another. It's funny, but I would say I don't spend on transportation around here. I live in the school hostel; my church is not far from the hostel; likewise, my department is not far. The market is just opposite the school, and other places are not far, so there is no need unless the need arises, but it is not one of my expenses.

A very big YES. If I change environments, things would really be much better. I have already stayed in different areas before coming to study here, and, in truth, things are far cheaper there. Adding to the economic situation, prices are inflating, and things are also way more costly, which is not good.

What really could make life easier for me is keeping up with good energy here on Hive and really seeing the rewards, by God's grace, of that hard work.

The hidden cost of living in school is indeed a hidden one at its peak.
