Build? Buy?

I stopped at my uncle’s this afternoon and walked in on a discussion he was having with his daughter—who I’m a proud big cousin to —with Just fifteen big days though. He was asking to know if he should build a house in Festac or just buy one.

Amara didn’t hesitate. “Buy now,” she said casually. “It’s just easier. No stress, no delay—you just find a good house and move in.” She made her point quickly and confidently, making a video of herself as she spoke. She made valid points: buying is definitely more convenient, especially in a fast-paced area like Festac where good properties get snapped up quickly. His eyes fell on me next and I simply said “uncle I think you should build”

I’ve always stood with building whenever this topic comes up. Building a house offers a level of freedom and personalization that buying simply can’t match. When you build, you start with a blank canvas. You get to choose everything—layout, materials, fixtures, finishes, and even the orientation of the house. It’s a chance to create a home that fits your lifestyle and future needs, rather than trying to fit into someone else's design choices.

A newly built home can be far more economical and sustainable in the long run. Since everything is brand new, you're less likely to deal with immediate repairs or hidden damages. You won't be wondering if the roof needs replacing in five years or if the plumbing is going to fail unexpectedly. That kind of security is often missing when buying a house, no matter how polished it looks on the surface.

The emotional aspect of building also plays a big role. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching your home take shape and knowing every detail was chosen by you. It creates a stronger sense of ownership and attachment—something that’s harder to achieve when moving into a space that doesn’t reflect your personal taste or needs.

Buying a house might seem quicker and easier, but it comes with compromises. You may have to sacrifice your ideal layout, live with outdated features, or pay more in renovations just to feel comfortable. In competitive real estate markets, you could even end up paying more than the house is worth due to bidding wars and inflated prices.

When you build, you also have the freedom to choose your location—whether it’s a quiet piece of land, a growing neighborhood, or somewhere closer to nature. You're not just buying a structure; you're choosing your environment and shaping your lifestyle.

Ultimately, while building requires more time, patience, and planning, it gives you control, quality, and a home that grows with you.
I’m not even trying to sell the idea that building a house is far better than buying one—that is just my opinion or choice rather. You reading this right now might be a fan of buying a house rather than building from scratch and that is okay too but when I finally break my piggy bank? I’m building a magnificent house, tailored to my taste😉. For those willing to invest the effort? Or not? Cheers!🥂✨
