That very term I can't forget!!!
School life can be exciting, overwhelming and rewarding, both in terms of knowledge and public recognition. For me, being a student shouldn't end with attending classes, doing assignments, projects, writing tests and exams. It becomes fulfilled when I'm able to make some little achievements here and there. Why? It gives me a sense of pride, puts a wide smile on my face and boosts my motivation up to the next level. It just gingers me to do more.
This prompt took me back to a term as a secondary school student which was a hectic one. My family and I were living about 5 mins away from school and that made it very easy for me to get there as early as 7am. However, my parents found another location because where we were leaving, had a lot of issues which began to make living there very uncomfortable.
The apartment turned out to be a newly built three-storey building, perfect in both structure and appearance. Only one thing was wrong. It was exactly 30 mins away from school, on days when there weren't traffic jam otherwise...... God knows how long.
Since my parents only rented a truck for the couch, beds, wardrobes and other heavy items, the whole stress of relocating, packing and unpacking fell on our shoulders. I ended up missing a whole week just so we could move our stuffs from the former to the new house and set everything in order.
By the time I resumed with a slight fever which refused to go down, I had missed a lot of teachings and had a terrifying amount of notes to copy. As if that wasn't enough, test happened to be 48 hours away. And guess what? I failed woefully. Coupled with my sickness, the incomplete notes and little reading, it was just unavoidable.
But I told myself that I would recover the test marks using my exam score. I read persistently either with my notebook or a textbook. It wasn't easy peasy given that I had to wake up very early daily inorder to step out of the house before 7am to avoid getting late and since my school dismissed by 4pm, I always ended up returning home close to 5pm. This usually leaves me stressed out and too tired to grab a book but I didn't give up.
Exams finally came and I wrote to the best of my knowledge. On the Xmas party day when results are announced along with awards, I was called out as the overall best student in class. The pride and joy I felt was palpable and contagious. I walked up to the stage with my head held high as I received numerous prizes.
To crown it all, a parent decided to grace me with a scholarship which covered my academic bills two terms after. Tears of joy welled up in my eyes as I thanked him heartily. I can still feel euphoria washing over me even as I write this post.

That's quite motivating, most people would have given up and dwell in failure if they were in your shoes but you didn't. And the amazing thing is you didn't just pass your exams, you came out overall best, that was wow!!!
I felt so bad when I saw my test results and my class teacher didn't cease to rub it all over my face, lol. But when I came out as the overall best, that shut her up.
I couldn't stop smiling that day 😁
Thanks for stopping by 🙂
This is beautiful. The stress of relocating and unpacking can be overwhelming. Students believe that even if they didn’t do well in tests, exams are there to help boost their marks which, many times, is true especially when one prepares well for it. Getting a scholarship, too crowned your effort. Congratulations 🎊
Honestly, the relocating was really hard on me.
The poor test results I got was an eyesore to me and that pushed me to read like never before. I was overwhelmed when I was given the scholarship and my parents were equally glad.
Thanks a lot for stopping by 🙂
Wow, this is inspiring.
