My Name ~ ~ ~ The Glory

Right after watching My name, I dived into The glory and felt the urge to write about it immediately but I was able to wait till I wrapped up the movie. And since the central theme in both is revenge, I thought, why not pair them in a post?
So here I am, presenting a review of the two kdrama series I watched last.

Like I said earlier, My Name was the first I watched, an action-crime thriller starring Han So-Hee as Yoon Ji-woo/ Oh Hye-jin, Park Hee-soon as Choi Moo-jin, Ahn Bo-hyun as Jeon Pil-do and many others.

To breakdown the drama in a simple way without revealing spoilers;

When Ji-woo watches through the door-hole as her father gets murdered infront of her while he firmly gripped the door knob to prevent her from coming out of the apartment, an avenging spirit is fueled in her to revenge her father's death.

Seeking the mentorship of Moo-jin, the crime boss of Dongchoen, a powerful drug ring in the country, she is determined to gather the information she needs, rising through ranks in the crime syndicate through her undiluted resilience, hardwork and fierce spirit.

Her transformation from a bereaved daughter to a ruthless revenant, devoid of warmth and an atom of true life purpose left me gaping and just wondering how it will all end.

However, as she approaches her goal, earning Moo-jin 's trust and joining the police force, she's faced with unexpected plot twists, intense actions and a real taste of reality in her lifelong revenge plan. Whoa!

The glory, a revenge psychological thriller was equally mind-blowing starring Song Hye-kyo as Moon Dong-eun, Lim Ji-yeon as Park Yeon-jin, Lee Do-hyun as Joo Yeo-jeong and many others.

High school bully becomes the victim's life dream.

That's how I would love to put it. Dong-eun's trauma in the hands of her five tormentors with Yeon-jin heading the gang, leaves her with a burning desire to avenge the years of smiles, liveliness and solid education she lost.

Forced to drop out of school, she does menial jobs to fend for herself while studying for the qualification examination inorder to become a teacher.

Keeping tracks of the lives of her five bullies and particularly Yeon-jin, she's determined to pay them back for all she went through, alongside seeking justice for a fellow victim that lost her life to the bullies.

The drama becomes more interesting as other characters gets woven into Dong-eun's plan like Mrs Hyeon-nam, a victim of domestic violence who wishes to get rid of her husband in exchange for gathering information for Dong-eun and Yeo-jeong, the plastic surgeon with an........ ugly past.

Both movies kept me enthralled to the very end as I took in all the twists and turns they literally threw on my face, lol. Hye-jin and Dong-eun played their respective parts really cool I simply doubt any other actors would have acted it better.

Hye-jin's unwavering spirit, determination and I must say, love and loyalty to her dad completely blew me away. However, having been consumed with revenge, losing touch with life and actual living to the extent of having to wonder who she really was and what her name is, got me on the verge of tears.

Dong-eun's endurance, perseverance and strategic tactic towards achieving her revenge plan was just out of ordinary. Her steadfastness to thoroughly learn all there is about the Game of go,

gradually surrounding and stealthily destroying ones your opponents territory

was mind-blowing, showing how patience and calculated tactics aids to feats. Honestly, the game of go is one I would love to learn the basics, if I ever get the chance.

The fact that the lead actresses each had a touch of romance in their lives did well to ease the complexity of the dramas, spicing it all up.
