Thinking about starting a wildlife conservation fund
I have been experimenting with short form content recently posting on Hive. Some of the posts are just a couple images with next to no text in them or very little. And I do not really feel good about getting $50+ dollars for such posts.
So I had an idea of creating a fund where my short form content rewards go 100% to help rewild a chosen area of my property.
What is rewilding?
It is a process of helping to build a ecosystem native to an area that helps with wild life that would otherwise not be in an area. Picking a field and adding wildflowers, native trees and plants is a way of doing this.
My land
I have a lot of fields, many acres... right now only grass is found there, mostly just fescue and broom straw. As much as this provides homes for small animals, larger ones would rather have a more dense area to be in. These fields can be turned into dense ecosystems that allow more animals to live in.

My conservation fund idea
I start small, pick an area around 1 acre in size. And focus on bringing in more diverse plants into that acre. Which plants are chosen can be a mix of wild flowers, bushes and trees native to the area. Possibly finding threatened species and propagating those to encourage their growth in the area. I will also need wood chips but I can include that in the fund as well to manage the area once bushes and trees are planted. This chosen area can be expanded to many acres as it grows, so I think this could scale quite far. Starting on the edge of the native forest I would build out from there.

Where the conservation fund and short form content come together.
Based on the idea above, any posts I make with less than 500 words will have my conservation funds beneficiary going to it 100%. And those funds will be exclusively used to build out areas for wildlife, specifically the flora native to the area.
My next step would be to create an account for this use, and do update posts from it every so often of what is being done with those funds and showing off the plants started. 100% of the funds earned in those posts will go right back into the conservation fund paying for more seeds, plants and wood chips. During the winter there will be periods of inactivity at that point I can save up funds and spend them during the following spring.

I've seen enough wildlife on your property in your posts , might as well try to preserve it no idea how big the area is but planting differend vegetation might help you to improve the diversity in insects and their predators .
Yeah it could be interesting, looking forward to all the insects and animals I spot out there.. will be good content as well.
Yep. It's a nice initiative.
Ah thanks much
Sounds like a good plan. It's cool that you are in a position to be able to do something like that. I've seen a lot of places lately trying to let their native wildflowers grow to help support the dwindling bee population.
Ah thanks, indeed its not for everyone. But I have abundant land so it would be cool to do a project like this.
For sure!
What kind of plants would you bring in? Very interested in this project!
I was thinking of wild flowers native to the area.. Along with trees and bushes that tend to grow around here as well. Maybe I can grow some threatened plants as well to help bring them back into the population.
Hell ya what a great use of your network and the blockchain. I am happy to put my tiny upvote on even your short form posts to help fund the homestead in a tiny way. Diverting that to help rewind an area in a country threatening to pave over national parks seems especially timely too! ;)
What I would suggest is you build a case study for others to follow too. Fantastic initiative and if you are able to duplicate it in others who would do the same, even better.
Thanks, I think it could be interesting that is for sure.
Well I do not really have the academic experience to write a proper study. I can surely blog along the way and write about my findings.
That’s a great idea mate . I think us old timers are Institutionalised thinking short form content is spam or shit posts are bad . It’s probably more about changing our attitude towards it but that’s a great idea.
Indeed, if its going to a good thing and as long as my content is still engaging I think it could be an interesting project.
What a nice Idea.
Thanks a lot
It's honestly a great option if you have unused land or something you wanted to do anyways. Nice kick backs and perks.
Hah yeah it all works out.
Love the idea.
Btw, you were preparing a field for the native deer, how did it go? Do you hunt too?
Yes we do have a spot for the deer, clover came up really good though not sure if the deer ended up using it. I have not had a chance to stake out the area for activity. But everything I planted there is doing great. We even added some wild grapes for them to eat eventually as well.
That is a great idea. I wish everyone would set an area of their land aside for this. We only have 2 acres, but we have 1/2 acre we left natural for the animals.
Oh nice, well good you are keeping a spot for the wildlife.
This is a really thoughtful idea. I like how you want to take rewards from short posts and put them into something that gives back to the land. Starting with just one acre sounds like a smart way to test what works before going bigger. I have seen open fields turned into spaces full of wildflowers and trees, and it changes everything for the wildlife. I think people will enjoy following your updates as the area grows into a healthier ecosystem.
Yeah indeed it could play out quite well. We shall see.
It will give me lots to blog about as well.
That really is a great idea! If you have the land, rewilding is a great plan. Some years back I was part of a project rewilding parts of the Amazon in Ecuador, they still are going strong although I honestly haven't had the time to contribute much the last few years. I think that a generous act on your part and will help out the animals as well as threatened plants and trees. Awesome!
Oh cool, that is great you did that for awhile. We are wrapping up for the year soon, but by next year I think we should be able to make some progress if I post alot of short content.
I sometimes feel guilty too when my posts are short or just photos, but the way you’re turning it into something meaningful is inspiring. Rewilding your land sounds amazing — like giving wildlife a safe home again
It could be interesting, long term we shall see how it all plays out.
I highly appreciate your decision to start a process to help build an ecosystem that is native to an area that supports wildlife. I am sure many people will support you because it is a very relevant process today.
Ah thanks.. I think it could be an interesting way of rebuilding the area.
This is a brilliant idea! It's an easy way to use HIVE in a real-world application, and it is an excellent project, too — good for the environment and good for your homestead, too! ❤️
Thanks! Yeah seeing those rewards going directly into the ground could be interesting. Starting small I think I can really bring back a lot of wild life for pretty cheap. Wild flowers would be the best start I think for the value. And slowly adding trees, bushes over time.
This is a helpful plan for the wild life. You work not just for yourself but also to help.
Yeah gotta help the little guys too
Sure,I love to.
That's a nice idea, sir. Youre so kind.
thanks much.
Getting $50+ dollars for short form content is a news for me, so does that indicate whale's attitude is changing towards short form content ? Using these wild funds to clean wild areas and make a suitable use is certainly a good idea.

I downvoted myself as it was pretty over rewarded I felt. So setting up some kind of fund to help out my local wildlife makes me feel better about it.
I think it looks like a great idea
thanks
Your welcome
Luckily managed to arrive at such a place recently. Beautiful! Besides all the wild blackberrys growing over too many spots.^^
Sounds like a real great idea, such areas are highly important and come with a lot of life along inside. :)
Also had similar stuff on my mind, but in germany stuff like this is a little more complicated and if somewhere worldwide - you are in need of someone reliable taking proper care.
But if you want real wildlife, i would not use woodchips or similar (or whats the plan besides the "grow barrier" in addition to some saved water and some more smaller visitors) at all to be honest. Let it grow, help out a little, but in the end it's always - the strongest survives. Besides it is mass bleckberry growing all over, then you need to intervene. :D
Also think about trees and their growth => growing shade, maybe influencing the ground and stuff like this.
My plan was to spread seeds, help out a litle and just let it happen. But i recommend you to cut down some growing trees if you want real diversitiy since if they are many and grow big enough, there will be not much diversity left on the ground. If you're interested - will post some details in this term about this place soon, since here nobody did take any care for at least 8y at some places, up to 30y+ at others.^^
What about the cost for 1 acre of land at your place?

Yeah doing a conservation project has always been an interest of mine. As for the wood chips, it would be mostly help to give the small trees and bushes a chance to get established. Maybe its not needed, but its possible for some plants to over grow them before getting big enough to deal with that. Maybe I wont need it but its hard to say for sure.
We would do a mix of grasses, flowers, and some bushes and tress. So there will be a mix of a little bit of everything.
Hah I know what you mean about those wild blackberries.. those thorns tear ya up.. and will over grow everything.
If you want to put some work in it, just rip stuff apart surrounding what ever you want to be safe, place the "weeds" you tear off on the ground surrounding the plant, will also gather additional water (dew) and hold water as well plus - it is free.^^ Besides it is more "airy", at least most of the time. :D
I know a big "chokeberry" (in german it sounds way more enjoyable^^) field close by and they never water it, at least the most part of the about 5y old field.
Drifting a little apart, but maybe this will leave you with a nice idea for somewhere else or in smaller dimensions for this area:
Everything that is done there in terms of "watering" is simply to use a kind of tiller to turn over the soil. In the end, the turf is folded like an "L" towards the plants (done from both directions), so that the dew collects there and the water stays in the soil for longer as well. Then, two to three times a year, they go along the plants and tear off or keep short everything that is not aronia. The torn-out stuff is also loosely spread around the plants to collect and hold even more dew. At least in our regions this is absolutely enough for these, as well as for many other plants. Right next to it there is a comparison field using drip-irrigation - the differences in terms of yield are minimal, if they exist at all.
But i can also understand if you use woodchips, way less work and yea, in 2y they will be most likely be gone anyways. xD
Wish you good luck, waiting for updates. :)
Yea... those blackberries and their lovely torns... but at least i could harvest a lot this year - thought it would be great to harvest them, before cutting down at least most of it.^^
Wow, this is a really great idea 👍 sharing the results of a short post for building a wilderness by planting wildflowers and other trees for new wildlife homes. If I may make a wildflower suggestion, I would suggest lantana. Lantana flowers are very liked with insects and small birds.
Yeah it is an interesting idea, I will see how it plays out.
Thanks for the suggestion, but that flower only grows as an annual here. I can grow them but they will not come back every year like other seeds I plan on growing it. Regardless I can surely grow some during the spring and summer.
