Un par de amigos inusuales [ESP-ENG]

Desde muy chico, crecí con la idea en la cabeza sobre aquella enemistad entre los gatos y los perros. Para mí era una realidad incuestionable. Muchas de las caricaturas que veía mostraban a ambas especies en conflicto: ponían a los gatos astutos y a los perros como unos bravucones. Por supuesto, los caninos solían ser más leales y buenos, mientras los mininos eran malos y tramposos. Recuerdo que una de estas series animadas se llamaba "Tom & Jerry". Había un perro llamado Spike que solía hacer equipo con el ratón (Jerry) para neutralizar las maldades del gato (Tom). Las cosas se ponían bastante alocadas.

Los gatos nunca me agradaron del todo, aunque desde algún tiempo los hemos aceptado en casa como mascotas. En la actualidad tenemos dos, la mayor llamada Misiu y su Hija "Miquica" (el nombre se lo puse yo, XD). Para mi sorpresa, ambas se lleban muy bien con el Golden Retriever que tenemos. Se acercan a él y lo acarician, e incluso se recuestan a su lado. Gracias a esta extraña conducta de ambas gatas, he comprendido que tanto la especie canina como la minina pueden convivir. No siempre, por supuesto. Ambas gatas no suelen llevársela bien con Polar, mi otro perro. Pero al menos han dado un pequeño paso.

Para esta ocasión les presento a Miquica, creo que había sido la única a la que no había fotografiado. Es de pelo corto y muy juguetona. Cuando era muy chiquita, sufrió un grave accidente. Por fortuna logramos salvarla. A partir de allí tiene algunos cuidados especiales. No come cosas duras porque le cuesta mucho tragarlas. La hemos llevado a un veterinario, y este nos ha recomendado que le suministremos alimentos más blandos. Aunque ella es traviesa y le encanta cazar insectos. Casi siempre debemos andar atentos a lo que hace, XD.

Since I was very young, I grew up with the idea in my head about the enmity between cats and dogs. For me it was an unquestionable reality. Many of the cartoons I saw showed the two species in conflict: they depicted cats as cunning and dogs as bullies. Of course, the canines tended to be more loyal and good, while the kitties were mean and tricky. I remember one of these animated series was called "Tom & Jerry." There was a dog named Spike who used to team up with the mouse (Jerry) to neutralize the cat's (Tom) mischief. Things would get pretty crazy.

Cats never quite appealed to me, although we have accepted them as pets at home for some time. We currently have two, the older one named Misiu and her Daughter "Miquica" (I gave her the name, XD). To my surprise, they both get along very well with the Golden Retriever we have. They go up to him and pet him, and even lie down next to him. Thanks to this strange behavior of both cats, I have come to understand that both the canine and the minine species can coexist. Not always, of course. Both cats don't usually get along with Polar, my other dog. But at least they have taken a small step.

Miquica y Spaik parecen almas gemelas atrapadas en distintos cuerpos. La gatita maulla para buscarlo y acostarse en su pelaje. Al principio me asusté por esa amistad entre perro y gata. Pensé que Spaik la terminaría lastimando, pero para mi sorpresa, la quiere más que a las croquetas que estamos acostumbrados a darle. Hoy, después de llegar a casa, ambos me recibieron alegres. En las fotos Miquica parece una pelusa al lado de una bestia; Spaik solo se recuesta y en ocasiones la lame: me da miedo porque pienso que se la va a tragar, jajaja. Es maravilloso verlos juntos.

A veces pienso que los animales forjan vínculos grandiosos. Miquica no es amigable con nuestro otro perro, pero con Spaik es un amor, y tal vez sea porque este es más tranquilo y amoroso. Los gatos perciben muchas cosas extraordinarias, y sé que tanto Miquica como Misiu han aceptado brindarle amistad a Spaik porque él es muy tierno y amigable. En las fotografías que les mostré por acá, han podido apreciarlo.

Miquica and Spaik look like soul mates trapped in different bodies. The kitten meows to look for him and lie down on his fur. At first I was scared by this dog and cat friendship. I thought Spaik would end up hurting her, but to my surprise, he loves her more than the kibble we are used to giving her. Today, after arriving home, they both greeted me happily. In the pictures Miquica looks like a fluff next to a beast; Spaik just lies down and sometimes licks her: it scares me because I think he will swallow her, hahaha. It's wonderful to see them together.

Sometimes I think animals forge great bonds. Miquica is not friendly with our other dog, but with Spaik she is a sweetheart, and maybe it's because this one is calmer and more loving. Cats sense many extraordinary things, and I know that both Miquica and Misiu have agreed to befriend Spaik because he is so gentle and friendly. In the pictures I showed you here, you have been able to appreciate it.

Ya no creo tanto en las antiguas caricaturas que veía yo en mi niñez. En la vida real siempre habrá hermosas excepciones. Incluso en los animales que parecen destinados a odiarse, surgen las amistades más extraordinarias.

I no longer believe so much in the old cartoons I used to watch in my childhood. In real life there will always be beautiful exceptions. Even in animals that seem destined to hate each other, the most extraordinary friendships emerge.
