Con Yu-Gi-Oh! Las cartas de batalla tuvieron un mejor sentido. Bueno, si en Pokémon se necesitaban bestias poderosas, en este anime se requería un buen mazo y una buena estrategia. Era más complicado el asunto cuando dos jugadores se enfrentaban, pero no tan complejo si eres un niño al que le encantaba esta animación. La historia de Yugi era más oscura, y de hecho, los monstruos que invocaban de las tarjetas tenían un diseño algo aterrador. Me encantaba la temática egipcia: le daba una atmósfera mágica y a la vez misteriosa. A mis hermanos nunca les gustó ver Yu-Gi-Oh, pero en mi caso específico, lo amaba.

La vi por mucho tiempo en televisión nacional. Creo que hasta transmitieron el capítulo final, o al menos el que yo recuerdo como final; tengo recuerdos de un Yugi enfrentando a una bestia faraónica, y usando sus cartas para salvar el mundo. Si tengo buena memoria, había una habilidad que enviaba a las criaturas a un lugar conocido como "el cementerio". Gran parte de la tensión se iba en esos instantes, sobre todo cuando una estrategia inesperada surgía y salvaba a Yugi, y no necesariamente por suerte.

With Yu-Gi-Oh!, the battle cards made more sense. Well, if Pokémon required powerful beasts, this anime required a good deck and a good strategy. It was more complicated when two players faced off, but not as complex if you're a kid who loved this show. Yugi's story was darker, and in fact, the monsters he summoned from the cards had a somewhat terrifying design. I loved the Egyptian theme: it gave it a magical yet mysterious atmosphere. My siblings never liked watching Yu-Gi-Oh, but in my case, I loved it.

I watched it for a long time on national television. I think they even aired the final episode, or at least the one I remember as the final one; I have memories of Yugi facing a pharaonic beast and using his cards to save the world. If I remember correctly, there was an ability that sent creatures to a place known as "the graveyard." Much of the tension was gone in those moments, especially when an unexpected strategy emerged and saved Yugi, and not necessarily by luck.

Digimon

Tal vez mi gran gusto por Pókemon me llevó a enamorarme casi de inmediato de Digimon. Bueno, es que ambas tenían ciertas similitudes, por no decir que una era copia de la otra (😂). Lo que hacía interesante a Digimon era ese mundo de metadatos en el que los monstruos coexistían. Tengo escasos recuerdos de este anime, y, sin embargo, todavía siento un tipo de nostalgia cuando me topo con alguna referencia de mi infancia. El último episodio que logré ver en televisión nacional fue, precisamente, uno de los más épicos. La batalla entre Patamon y Devimon; sé que este último termina desvaneciéndose... Y lo sé porque todavía tengo memorias de esa escena, y de la emoción que sentí.

No sé si después de eso sacaron más episodios o hubo nuevas entregas, pero al menos las primeras temporadas si me las vi completas.

Perhaps my great love for Pokémon led me to fall in love with Digimon almost immediately. Well, the fact is that both had certain similarities, not to say that one was a copy of the other (😂). What made Digimon interesting was that world of metadata in which the monsters coexisted. I have few memories of this anime, and yet, I still feel a kind of nostalgia when I come across a reference from my childhood. The last episode I managed to watch on national television was, in fact, one of the most epic. The battle between Patamon and Devimon; I know that the latter eventually fades away... And I know this because I still have memories of that scene, and the emotion I felt.

I don't know if they released more episodes after that or if there were new installments, but at least I did watch the first few seasons in full.

¿Qué anime te encantó ver en tu infancia?

Estos tres animes me traen recuerdos muy bonitos de mi infancia. Eran tiempos diferentes, más mágicos y divertidos. Las épocas de la televisión nacional y las cintas de VHS han quedado en el pasado, y con ella, una era a la que yo considero dorada. Cada vez que puedo, veo algunos de estos clásicos animes de antaño. Sé que algunos como "Pokémon" se siguen transmitiendo. Claro que, con los años pasando, el estilo cambia y con ello, mucho de lo que vimos en nuestra infancia.

What anime did you love watching as a child?

These three anime bring back fond memories of my childhood. They were different times, more magical and fun. The days of national television and VHS tapes are long gone, and with them, an era I consider golden. Whenever I can, I watch some of these classic anime from yesteryear. I know some, like "Pokémon," are still airing. Of course, as the years go by, the style changes, and with it, much of what we watched in our childhood.
