Discover the rustic and vibrant beauty of Lido Beach [ENG-ESP]

Not everyone likes the crashing surf: the chaotic foam on the sand, the deserted rocks, the scorching sun and the distorted blue. Harmonious beaches are a delight, but sometimes, a little excitement is needed, _isn't it?

On the coasts of Lechería, Venezuela, there is a place where the white hills conjugate the landscape between the sky and the earth. An area where more than 40° Celsius seems to matter little, as well as the cold in the waves. A rustic corner, but beautiful, like an epic of rough verses that end up pleasing anyway.

Another of the jewels that Venezuela has, ready to delight: Lido Beach awaits there, surrounded by a hotel jungle. Here the journey begins, between the spicy sun and the strangely refreshing sensation of the salty water.

No a todos les gusta el oleaje estrepitoso: la espuma caótica en la arena, las piedras desérticas, el sol achicharrante y el azul distorsionado. Las playas armónicas son un deleite, pero a veces, es necesario un poco de emoción, ¿no es así?.

En las costas de Lechería, Venezuela, hay un lugar en el que los cerros blancos conjugan el paisaje entre el cielo y la tierra. Una zona en la que los más de 40° centígrados parecen importar poco, al igual que el frío en los oleajes. Un rincón rústico, pero hermoso, como una epopeya de toscos versos que terminan gustando de todas formas.

Otra de las joyas que tiene Venezuela, listas para deleitar: La Playa Lido aguarda allá, rodeada de una jungla hotelera. Aquí comienza el viaje, entre el sol picoso y la sensación extrañamente refrescante del agua salada.

The trip was on Sunday. My family had decided to travel to Lechería on a Saturday, but a fracture in the tire of our car forced us to suspend the trip. We were left like children waiting for the candy that in the end was not given. My dad, a mechanical know-it-all, rushed to fix it. The next day we left home at dawn. As good strangers visiting distant lands, we asked for help to the friend who never refuses to “orient you”: the GPS.

It was almost 95 miles to Lido beach. The journey forced us to cross from one region to another, with an estimated time of two hours, which in the end was three and a half hours; that was due to my dad's willingness not to step on the accelerator so much, and my unexpected confusion in the route we had to follow on the recommendation of the GPS. We arrived at the wrong place, so we went back through the city of Lechería to finally find our destination.

At that point in the morning, the sun was already 38 degrees Celsius.

El viaje fue un domingo. Mi familia había decidido viajar a Lechería un sábado, pero una fractura en la llanta de nuestro el automóvil nos obligó a suspender la travesía. Quedamos como niños esperando el dulce que al final no le dieron. Mi papá, sabelotodo en la mecánica, se apresuró a remendar la avería. Al día siguiente salimos de casa en el amanecer. Como buenos forasteros que visitarían tierras lejanas, le pedimos auxilio al amigo que nunca se niega a "orientarte": el GPS.

Eran casi 95 millas hasta la playa Lido. La travesía nos obligó a cruzar de una región a otra, con un tiempo estimado de dos horas, que al final fueron tres horas y media; eso por la disposición de mi papá de no pisar tanto el acelerador, y mi inesperada confusión en la ruta que debíamos seguir por recomendación del GPS. Llegamos al lugar que no era, así que volvimos a atravesar la ciudad de Lechería para al fin encontrar nuestro destino.

En ese punto de la mañana, ya el sol calentaba a unos 38 grados centígrados.

The first thing you come across when you arrive at Lido is its imposing boulevard. Blue-colored walkways are scattered along the waterfront, separated from the asphalt by tall palm trees. People tend to walk and jog in cool clothes. There is no constant breeze, so hydration and sunscreen are essential ingredients.

The boulevard, known as “Eneas Perdomo” is the border between the sea and the hotel area. It is also the cradle of restaurants and recreation areas, which are usually a lifesaver when eating a good fish soup, or maybe dancing, drinking a beer or enjoying good music. The tourist has several options to enjoy Lido, and that was what I liked the most.

Lo primero con lo que te topas al llegar a Lido es con su imponente bulevar. Las caminerías de color azul se dispersan a lo largo de la costa, separadas del asfalto por palmeras altas. Las personas suelen caminar y trotar con ropa fresca. No hay brisa constante, por lo la hidratación y el protector solar son ingredientes fundamentales.

El bulevar, conocido como "Eneas Perdomo" es la frontera entre el mar y el área hotelera. También es la cuna de restaurantes y zonas de recreación, las cuales suelen ser un salvavidas al momento de comer una buena sopa de pescado, o tal vez bailar, beber una cerveza o disfrutar de buena música. El turista tiene diversas opciones para disfrutar de Lido, y eso fue lo que más me gustó.

On this same boulevard I found a bike rental business. I thought it was pretty cool, and even imagined how nice it would be to ride a bike during sunrise, with the cool sea breeze. The half-hour rental cost about 2$. There are also free attractions, such as the children's playground, or the adapted spaces to play volleyball. The restaurants have a cooler and certainly captivating style.

This is the first beach I visit that has several entertainment options, especially if you want more than just a swim in the sea. Its availability of services makes it perfect for tourists who want to enjoy elegance, style and personality.

En este mismo bulevar hallé un negocio de alquiler de bicicletas. Me pareció bastante genial, e incluso imaginé lo agradable que sería conducir bici durante el amanecer, con la brisa fresca del mar. La media hora de alquiler rondaba los 2$ aproximadamente. También hay atracciones gratuitas, como el parque de niños, o los espacios adaptados para jugar voleibol. Los restaurantes tienen un estilo más fresco y, desde luego, cautivador.

Esta es la primera playa que visito que cuenta con varias opciones de entretenimiento, sobre todo si quieres más que un simple baño en el mar. Su disponibilidad en servicios la hacen perfecta para turistas que deseen disfrutar con elegancia, estilo y personalidad.

I knew how far I was from the site my parents chose for our stay the moment I saw the breakwaters. Open like crab arms, these structures are one of the main attractions of the place. I found that you can't go beyond the retaining barrier, perhaps because of the swell which is usually strong. There are two of them, or at least I saw two; some call them "malecones", I usually go for the traditional term.

Near these breakwaters, there is an exclusive area for activities such as Paddle L'dokite, Kayaking, Surfing, Kitesurfing and Skimboarding. Although I only noticed a few people paddle boarding at the time.

Supe cuán lejos estaba del sitio que eligieron mis padres para nuestra estancia en el momento que vi los rompeolas. Abiertas como brazos de cangrejo, estas estructuras son uno de los principales atractivos del lugar. Me encontré con que no se puede ir más allá de la barrera de contención, tal vez por el oleaje que suele ser fuerte. Son dos, o al menos yo vi dos; algunos les dicen "malecones", yo suelo irme por el término tradicional.

Cerca de estos rompeolas, hay un área exclusiva para actividades como el Paddle L´dokite, el Kayak, Surf, Kitesurf y Skimboard. Aunque yo solo noté que algunas personas estaban haciendo Paddle en ese momento.

After exploring the area, I returned to the awning we rented to protect ourselves from the sun. This is another nice feature of Lido Beach: depending on your preferences and budget, you can rent a beachfront tent. You don't need to pay by the hour; it's the same price for your entire stay. Since our trip was for families, we preferred a medium-sized one.

The water is cold and the waves are strong. Lido Beach is untamed, but that doesn't mean it's cruel to tourists. Because the sun tends to be so hot, I prefer icy waves. The feeling is very refreshing. There are lifeguards (not like on Baywatch, 😂), so you don't have to worry about swimming safely, although my recommendation is that you actually know how to swim.

I found palm trees at the other end of the breakwater; I assumed the beach is sectioned off, perhaps so visitors can choose the spot they feel most comfortable in.

Luego de hacer mis recorridos por la zona, volví al toldo que alquilamos para protegernos de sol. Esta es otra buena característica dentro de la playa Lido, pues según tus preferencias y presupuesto, puedes alquilar una carpa frente al mar; no necesitas pagar por hora, sino que es un mismo precio para toda tu estadía en el lugar. Como nuestro viaje era familiar, preferimos uno mediano.

El agua es fría y el oleaje es fuerte. Lido es una playa indomable, pero no por eso cruel con los turistas. Por lo abrazador que suele ser el sol, prefiero olas de hielo. La sensación es muy refrescante. Hay salvavidas (no como en Baywatch, 😂) así que no debes preocuparte por nadar con tranquilidad, aunque mi recomendación es que en verdad sepas nadar.

Encontré palmeras del otro extremo del rompeolas; asumí que la playa está seccionada, tal vez, para que los visitantes elijan el lugar en el que se sientan más a gusto.

What is my final assessment of Lido Beach?

I think my smile says it all. It was a bit of a crazy adventure at the beginning, but quite compensating in the end. I like the strong waves (as long as one can't be scared, 😂) and the visual aesthetics of Lido. It is a beach built for delights and pleasures, conjugated in modernity and, probably, elitism. Also, it is a corner for simple people, those who enjoy the sea water and the company of their loved ones.

¿Cuál es mi valoración final sobre la Playa Lido?

Creo que mi sonrisa lo dice todo. Fue una aventura algo disparatada al principio, pero bastante compensativa al final. Me gustan los oleajes fuertes (en la medida de que uno no se pueda asustar, 😂) y la estética visual de Lido. Es una playa construida para los deleites y placeres, conjugada en la modernidad y, probablemente, el elitismo. También, es un rincón para las personas sencillas, esas que disfrutan con el agua del mar y la compañía de sus amados.
