Upright still / Erguido aún
It’s not something strange to find these old constructions in any town or city in Venezuela, the trapiches (sugar mills) are a trace of the colonial past of the country, a time when they prospered in many regions. Today some of them are still there well maintained and others are in ruins.

The one I show you in the photos is one of the latter, it seems that no one was interested in it and although it has not collapsed, you can see the enormous wear on its walls and the weeds in the surrounding area.
Sugar cane was one of the crops that the Spaniards brought to Venezuela, and it quickly became one of the most economically profitable products. Large quantities of sugar were exported to the European continent for many years and the sugar mills multiplied in these lands.

With the arrival of the 20th century and industrialization, little by little the sugar mills fell into disuse. Some had better luck because they were preserved as part of museums or cultural spaces, others in private properties, and the less fortunate ones look like this one I visited some time ago, wounded but still standing upright.

Wow dear It's pretty interesting to see how these old sugar mills stand as reminders of Venezuela's colonial past. They tell stories of resilience and change over time. Nice photos too
