Llano River: another extreme adventure in La Sierra, Cojedes - Venezuela / Río Llano: otra aventura extrema por La Sierra, Cojedes - Venezuela

On our last day of excursion through the natural attractions of La Sierra, we went to another river, to continue getting to know more wells, waterfalls and again experience extreme sensations.

En nuestro último día de excursión por los atractivos naturales de La Sierra, nos fuimos a otro río, para seguir conociendo más pozos, cascadas y nuevamente experimentar sensaciones extremas.

Shortly after 6:00 a.m., I opened the zipper of my tent with all the desire to live a new adventure and saw a beautiful sunrise.

Poco después de las 6:00 de la mañana, abrí el cierre de mi carpa con todas las ganas de vivir una nueva aventura y vi un hermoso amanecer.

At about 8:00, those of us who had ordered breakfast at the posada for that morning, sat down to eat. A fairly typical breakfast of the Venezuelan plains: arepas, perico (scrambled eggs with tomato, onion, paprika and other seasonings), black beans, cheese, fried plantain slices, coffee and natural juices, mine of soursop.

Como a las 8:00, los que habíamos pedido desayuno a la posada para esa mañana, nos sentamos a comer. Un desayuno bastante típico de los llanos venezolanos: arepas, perico (huevos revueltos con tomate, cebolla, pimentón y otros aliños), caraotas negras, queso, tajadas de plátano frito, café y jugos naturales, el mío de guanábana.

Then the guides told us a little about the place we were going to, told us that we were going to get much wetter on the way than the day before and we set off.

Luego los guías nos hablaron un poco del lugar al que iríamos, nos dijeron que en el camino nos íbamos a mojar mucho más que el día anterior y arrancamos.

As we were going to get our feet wet, I put my hiking sandals back on with the same socks, hoping they will take the beating, as we say here, because as I mentioned in the other post, they are old. Anyway I took a thick plastic tape with me just in case, if they broke, I could solve something with that so I wouldn't be barefoot.

Como nos íbamos a mojar los pies, volví a ponerme mis sandalias de senderismo con las mismas medias o calcetines, deseando que aguantaran la pela, como decimos acá, porque como comenté en la otra publicación, están viejas. De todos modos me llevé una cinta plástica gruesa por si acaso, si se rompían, algo podría resolver con eso para no quedarme descalza.

The day was quite sunny, but we were not so affected by the heat because for most of the way we had a mountain on one side that gave us shade.

El día estaba bien soleado, pero no nos afectó tanto el calor porque gran parte del camino tuvimos una montaña a un lado que nos dio sombra.

Like the previous day, we came across another guama tree, and we took the opportunity to take some fruit to eat later, I also found a small guava.

Como el día anterior, nos topamos con otro árbol de guama, y aprovechamos para llevarnos algunas frutas para comer luego, también encontré una pequeña guayaba.

There is a lot of productive land around here, crops can be seen in the distance.

Hay muchas tierras productivas por aquí, a lo lejos se ven los cultivos.

Except for short flat stretches, most of the trail is downhill, the terrain is quite rocky and there are parts where the dry earth was slippery, so you had to walk carefully.

Excepto breves tramos planos, casi todo el sendero es en bajada, el terreno es bastante rocoso y hay partes donde la tierra seca estaba resbaladiza, así que había que caminar con cuidado.

Despite the drought typical of this time of year, the vegetation was quite green.

A pesar de la sequía típica de esta época del año, la vegetación estaba bastante verde.

We were told that this whole area of La Sierra is ideal for birdwatching, a German member of the group had brought her binoculars.

Nos dijeron que toda esta zona de La Sierra es ideal para observar aves, una compañera alemana del grupo había llevado sus binoculares.

When we had been walking for about half an hour, we had already dispersed, it always happens on excursions because people go at different paces, so the guide asked us to wait a bit so as not to get so far away.

Cuando llevábamos como media hora de camino, ya nos habíamos dispersado, siempre ocurre en las excursiones porque la gente va a ritmos diferentes, así que el guía nos pidió que esperáramos un poco para no alejarnos tanto.

The mountain scenery was getting more and more beautiful, while, on the trail, we saw a lot of equine poop, all these rural roads are used by farmers in the area and their pack animals.

El paisaje montañoso se ponía cada vez más bonito, mientras, en el sendero, vimos mucha caca de equinos, todos estos caminos rurales son utilizados por los agricultores de la zona y sus animales de carga.

The main guide is from the village, look at the shoes he wears, some plastic boots, I think it is a good choice for this type of excursions that combine mountain and river.

El guía principal es del pueblo, fíjense en los zapatos que usa, unas botas plásticas, creo que es una buena opción para este tipo de excursiones que combinan montaña y río.

I was talking to him and he told me about some plants that are in the place and that they use as medicine, for example this stick in the photo below (now I don't remember the name), in which they make a cut and a reddish liquid comes out of it, which he told me helps to cure respiratory ailments.

Iba hablando con él y me comentó sobre algunas plantas que hay en el lugar y que ellos usan como medicina, por ejemplo este palo de la foto que sigue (ahora no recuerdo el nombre), en el que hacen un corte y de él brota un líquido rojizo, que me dijo que ayuda a curar afecciones respiratorias.

We had been walking for about an hour when, after passing through a forest, we reached the river.

Teníamos ya como una hora caminando cuando luego de pasar por un bosque, llegamos al río.

Along this watercourse, called Llano River, we were going to walk from that moment on to reach several wells and waterfalls.

Por este curso de agua, llamado Río Llano, íbamos a caminar a partir de ese momento para llegar a varios pozos y cascadas.

We waited a while for the whole group to arrive, and in the meantime, we ate the guamas we had picked up along the way.

Esperamos un rato a que llegara todo el grupo, y mientras, nos comimos las guamas que habíamos recogido por el camino.

From here, the route continued almost completely into the river, and we were told to walk carefully because there were rocks and deep parts. In addition, those of us who didn't have a waterproof or submersible backpack had to make sure that it didn't get wet when the water reached our waist or higher.

A partir de aquí, la ruta continuó casi completamente dentro del río, y nos dijeron que camináramos con cuidado porque había rocas y partes hondas. Además, los que no teníamos mochila impermeable o sumergible, teníamos que estar pendientes de que no se nos mojara cuando el agua nos llegara a la cintura o más arriba.

Not many people come to this place, it is still a little known destination, and it gives you the feeling that you are discovering these landscapes, which look as if no human being had passed through here.

No viene mucha gente a este lugar, es aún un destino poco conocido, y te da la sensación de que estás descubriendo estos paisajes, que lucen como si ningún ser humano hubiese pasado por aquí.

Some people in the group were worried about encountering snakes, but we didn't see any.

Algunas personas del grupo temían encontrarse con serpientes, pero no vimos ninguna.

I was impressed by the number of huge trees around here, with trunks that easily reached 5-6 meters in diameter, they must be about 200 years old.

Me impresionó la cantidad de árboles enormes que hay por aquí, con unos troncos que fácilmente llegaban a unos 5-6 metros de diámetro, deben tener como 200 años.

Our pace was slow due to the fact that the path was fluvial, but this helped us to observe the surroundings in more detail.

Nuestro paso era lento debido a que el sendero era fluvial, pero eso nos sirvió para ir observando el entorno con más detenimiento.

We reached a part with rocky walls full of moss that had stalactite-like shapes.

Llegamos a una parte con paredes rocosas llenas de musgo que tenían como formas de estalactitas.

Nearby we heard some voices above us and when we looked up it was a herd of monkeys jumping from branch to branch on top of some trees, too bad you can't see them in the picture, my camera doesn't have a good zoom, because of their color I think they were red howler monkeys.

Allí cerca escuchamos unas voces encima de nosotros y cuando miramos arriba era una manada de monos que estaban saltando de rama en rama muy en lo alto de unos árboles, lástima que no se ven en la foto, mi cámara no tiene un buen zoom, por su color creo que eran araguatos.

Then the path began to narrow, the river got deeper, and we encountered higher rock walls with a smooth texture.

Luego el camino empezó a estrecharse, el río a ponerse más hondo, y nos encontramos con unas paredes de roca más altas y con una textura como lisa.

There were tree roots on some of those rocks and a lot of vegetation around, which made everything look super mysterious.

Había raíces de árboles en algunas de esas rocas y mucha vegetación alrededor, lo que hacía que todo se viera súper misterioso.

After this, a small waterfall appeared before us and we continued the route climbing the rocks next to it.

Después de esto apareció ante nosotros una pequeña cascada y continuamos la ruta escalando las rocas a su lado.

A few minutes later we arrived at a place where the guide told us to leave our stuff because what was coming next was a lot of water, rocks to climb, ropes to help us, etc., that is, now came the good stuff!

A los pocos minutos llegamos a un lugar donde el guía nos dijo que dejaríamos las cosas porque lo que seguía era mucha agua, rocas para escalar, cuerdas para ayudarnos, etc, es decir, ¡ahora venía lo bueno!

I took out of the backpack the only thing I took with me for what was next, my waterproof camera, and tucked it in the front of my top, on my chest. Some of the photos I took from here on out came out with water drops, others half blurry from the lens fogging up from the humidity, but that's what there was 😄 whatever, I didn't want to stop capturing those moments.

Saqué de la mochila lo único que me llevé para lo que seguía, mi cámara fotográfica a prueba de agua, y la metí en la parte delantera de mi top, en mi pecho. Algunas de las fotos que hice a partir de aquí salieron con gotas de agua, otras medio borrosas por el lente empañado por la humedad, pero es lo que había 😄, como fuera, no quería dejar de capturar esos momentos.

And then came an extreme step, where we had to use rope and put muscle because the water was falling hard and could knock us down. Here I hit my knee on the rock, but nothing serious, I only got a big bruise later.

Y llegó un paso extremo, donde tuvimos que usar cuerda y poner músculo porque el agua caía con fuerza y nos podía tumbar. Aquí me di un golpe en la rodilla con la roca, pero nada grave, sólo me salió un gran morado más tarde.

The guides helped us at all times and we also gave each other a hand when needed.

Los guías nos ayudaron en todo momento y también entre nosotros nos dimos una mano cuando hacía falta.

We advanced past other small waterfalls, without the need for a rope, climbing carefully up the rocks. I was concentrating on each step, I didn't want to have an accident.

Avanzamos pasando por otras pequeñas cascadas, sin necesidad de cuerda, subiendo con cuidado por las rocas. Me mantenía concentrada en cada paso, no quería sufrir un accidente.

The challenges and blurry photos continued 😂.

Los desafíos y las fotos borrosas continuaron 😂.

Our goal was to get to a well with a bigger waterfall, there was still a little way to go, but nobody was complaining, we were all excited.

Nuestro objetivo era llegar a un pozo con una cascada más grande, faltaba un poco todavía, pero nadie se quejaba, todos estábamos entusiasmados.

A few more climbs over land, abundant vegetation and rocks, and finally we arrive.

Unas subidas más por tierra, abundante vegetación y rocas, y finalmente llegamos.

This waterfall seemed super mystical to me, the water came down through a vertical opening that made you wonder what would be further up and the surroundings had the appearance of a cave.

Esta cascada me pareció súper mística, el agua bajaba por una abertura vertical que te hacía preguntarte qué habría más arriba y los alrededores tenían el aspecto de una cueva.

Even though we were wet, when we submerged in this well we all felt the water colder, probably because it was quite deep. When you approached the waterfall you received a delicious massage.

A pesar de que estábamos mojados, cuando nos sumergimos en este pozo todos sentimos el agua más fría, debe ser porque era bastante profundo. Al acercarte a la cascada recibías un delicioso masaje.

I came out of the well for a moment and found a butterfly floating in the water, I thought it was dead, but I grabbed it and it was still alive, so I put it on a plant and there it stayed like nothing, that moment made me happy 😊.

Salí un momento del pozo y me encontré con una mariposa que flotaba en el agua, pensé que estaba muerta, pero la agarré y aún vivía, así que la puse sobre una planta y allí se paró como si nada, me puso contenta ese momento 😊.

Before leaving we took a group photo with my camera, I'm so glad I took it with me and immortalized us in that exotic scenery.

Antes de irnos nos hicimos una foto grupal con mi cámara, me alegra mucho habérmela llevado hasta allí e inmortalizarnos en ese exótico escenario.

It was only 1:00 in the afternoon and there were still other places to see, but I've already gone on too long, so I'll show you those in the next post 😉.
