Slobberchops HIVE Web Tools: Who Didn't Vote?

avatar
(Edited)

tool.PNG

Sometimes you get a slice of inspiration from someone else. Yesterday @pharesim’s post did just that.

He describes his Web Tool as 'a small tool', and its function to me was irrelevant as I was far more interested in what was behind it..., the code. Being the geek I am, all kinds of ideas started springing into my mind.

It's hardly rocket science. Javascript is the preferred language of the web so why have I been struggling with the likes of Flask and Python to host websites to run my scripts?

pages.PNG
...'GitHub pages, free hosting with SSL included, I learned a lot yesterday'...

Another aspect of this post I picked up on was the hosting service of GitHub he was using. I have had a repository there for several years but didn't realise how easy it is to publish a site directly using the 'pages' feature.

Well doh!…, thanks so much for opening my eyes @pharesim..., talk about not seeing the wood for the trees. @bingbabe was working all day yesterday so I was determined to churn out something useful up and running in just half a day.

image.png
...'a sub-section of the original 'Who Didn't Vote' script written in Python, nice and easy to convert if you are using condenser calls'...

'Who Didn't Vote' is… was, a Python script I originally wrote maybe 2 years ago. It always irked me that my posts would get comments and some users would not bother giving me a vote for my efforts.

Occasionally, this is done in error, but there are certain cunts who repeatedly comment on my posts (and other Orca's) simply to gain a comment vote.

workflows.PNG
...'how did I miss all this, make your changes, and it publishes all your new shit within minutes, brilliant!'...

Rinse and repeat with the Orca's and said cunts never run out of voting power and gain free votes from the more benevolent (stupid) types like me who encourage comments and dish out juicy votes.

I have heard on the underground grapevine there is a preferred 'list' of HIVE users to target for juicy comment votes. Leave a bullshit comment that's a little better than 'Nice Post' and you can gain some free pennies.

Call me paranoid but this behaviour does irk me and ‘Who Didn’t Vote’ was born out of frustration of these types.

image.png
...'adding some metadata might help with SEO, yes.., dream on, the only hits this will get are direct ones'...

So after a little farting around I managed to get a basic version of 'Who Didn't Vote' hosted on GitHub. A little HTML integrated into the Javascript functions that are basically the same calls to the HIVE API using an external URL call and things were looking good.

const apiUrl = "https://api.hive.blog";

The site looked basic and bland so I added some Tailwind CSS into the code, using the knowledge I picked up when designing and putting together ‘Tales of the Urban Explorer’.

(html comment removed: Google tag (gtag.js) )
<script async src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=G-YXN7LF0FT5"></script>
<script>
  window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || [];
  function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);}
  gtag('js', new Date());

  gtag('config', 'G-YXN8LE03T5');
</script>

Next I headed over to Google Analytics, added an new property and the website details. Shove the code they give you in the header section and you are set. Now you can monitor who’s looking at your brand new shiny creation.

image.png

It's quite simple but works well. Simply add your username, Click 'Analyse Most Recent Post' and it will show you who's commenting but abstaining from voting for your latest lovingly crafted piece of work.

alert("Stop being a smart-arse, and add a proper username.");

Me being me of course had to add something a little irregular into the code. At least I didn't suffix it with 'you twat'. I must be mellowing.

cover.PNG

While ‘Who Didn’t Vote’ could be quite useless for some, I get a lot of auto-votes that I never ask for but don't complain about.

It can be hard to keep track of who has not bothered to leave a vote, but based on my previous sentence this could be a useless tool for you.

I suspect my fellow Orca’s will make use of it.

results.PNG
...'this is what you see after hitting 'Analyse Most Recent Post'. It's quite obvious on who didn't give you a vote'...

Having been hanging around here for years, many auto-votes are a consequence of past users long since gone who still have a stake and have discarded their accounts. Some are so old they are from the STEEM days, and never saw HIVE.

Well shit happens, and that’s the way things are here. Stick around long enough and you will gain the same 'benefits'.

Today woke up my coding head yet again. I work with Powershell most of my working days, and I can see Javascript is not so far-fetched from that with its squiggly brackets syntax.

image.png
...'my Python graveyard folder, full of scripts, some working, some not, some could be hosted and made use of'...

I can think of at least one more 'tool' that could be converted using a similar strategy, one I have not used in some time. First I will need to re-write it as I am sure it uses the deprecated BEEM library, and Javascript isn't going to like that much.

Future updates to ‘Who Didn’t Vote’ could be, displaying the primary image of the last post, displaying the vote weight of the voter and the ability to check older posts.

image.png
...'Who Didn't Vote - Python version, usable only be me and only on my latest post'...

If they are giving you a 1% vote and a 'Nice Post' comment, it's hardly better than no vote at all and falls into the 'taking the piss' bracket.

DISCLAIMER: Some judgement on what you see is simply common sense. Use this tool at your discretion. Votes are not mandatory and stake-holders can do whatever they like. My opinions about commenting without voting are my own, and not necessarily the same as others.

I think I am going to enjoy converting my library of ‘geek only’ Python utilities so the masses can use them. Expect more from me soon.

Who Didn’t Vote can be found here, and the source on my GitHib repository here.

LOL, my first commenter and voter too! it seems to work like lightning compared to the Python version. I wish I had cottoned on to Javascript earlier, its a quirky language, but they all have their weird dialects.

I know some people have really taken on board the idea to reward people who comment on their post, to the extent they probably upvote any old shit comment.

I've seen some spammers get more rewards for their two word "beautiful post" spam comment than their one shit image post.

I've seen some spammers get more rewards for their two word "beautiful post" spam comment than their one shit image post.

It's up to everyone to judge what they dish out in comment rewards.

This is about post rewards though, not everyone has the ability to give out comment rewards due to insufficient VP and I would advise those people not to comment vote, but post rewards stack up and even the smallest voter can add something.

I upvote people who comment on my posts but it's always calculated. There's less and less I want to vote out there these days so I often spread large upvotes around to those I know well or who engage with me in meaningful ways; it says, thank you for taking the time to have built a relationship with me and then to nurture it along.

Well that is still better than some big accounts that decides to add someone to their fanbase just because they show up in their posts lol!

Saying "beautiful post" is not "spam" its just a cultural thing. People in india are just lazy like that. Stop being racist!

Although I'm not a whale, and my vote on the comments of my publications is only of low value (because of my HP) 0.02 approximately, I can see the capacity and importance of this tool for authors with great voting power. And I'm not just saying that so you can vote for my comment! Ahaha I don't want to be one of those bastards... Ahaha
Unfortunately, what I do is a bit the opposite. In other words: I vote for quality posts with 100% weight, and then instead of replying straight away, I end up not commenting. Which is not good for promoting engagement.

Well done, Slober! I'm sure the tool you've developed will help many to separate the wheat from the chaff.

No, I don't see you as one of those. They tend to come and try it for a while and then move off when I start ignoring them. It's been going on for years, and is generally new people to the chain who know no better.

I vote for quality posts with 100% weight, and then instead of replying straight away

Your stake your choice? Yeah no. More like youe stake my cancel out of your stake. Pointless. Why even use hive if there are downvotes on rewards. Stupid. If u dont like someone just mute them. We ahouldnt have downvoting of actual paid rewards because people will just leave and power down or just delegate to bid bots and get liquid hive/hbd and just tip that. No point in using hive at all anymore

Still love python more...

I want to do also more in java/type script...
But whenever I start i often fall back into python because I can get it quicker up and running 🤣

Python is easier to debug, at least for me as I am familiar with it and it's quirks. So long as you avoid BEEM, code should quite easily convert to JS. If you use external API's, for HIVE and Splinterlands, I don't see an issue.

One of the reasons is the debug indeed also for me.

But for nice front end i think java script with their frameworks is better then python.

Commenting, and not voting, is frustrating. I'm also disappointed how few people vote, but don't view (read) the post. For example, this post currently has 387 votes and only 16 views.

Like you, I have found using Python/Flask on my website a real hassle. Instead, I use a combination of Javascript, PHP and MySQL.

HIVE is not a popular platform, we all have to accept that. It says 'over 40' now and that's still not many. Getting people to read your stuff is even harder, time is a precious commodity.

Like you, I have found using Python/Flask on my website a real hassle. Instead, I use a combination of Javascript, PHP and MySQL.

I tried to host this with Flask some time ago, and did learn something.. but what a pain in the arse, passing variables. To the web from Python and back again, so much hassle.

I never got around trying Django, but it seems to be the same idea.

Never really checked who was voting or not, but that's definitely a nice tool, even more because a quick look at the non-voter behaviour can easily dish out how much comment farming is being done. I just upvote and/or respond to all genuine comments and ignore/ provide a "gentle" response to the usual farmers. Thanks for sharing! !BEER

When you use this tools comment reward, you should been sure you received a little comments, but it is hatters to see o found a guys trying to take your hair and trying to get your votes without give you a vote independence if their value vote could be in 0.001, the intention count too, specially when the count is relatively news.

Commenting and not voting isnt some sort of evil scam

Vut youre making it seem like one. Now all your indian slave users will thibk theyre supposed to downvote anyone who dooesnt uovote you or some shit? Lol what the fuck is your point here? Nit picking nerds like you are why no one uses hive dude

You ruin it with your shitty little add ons like this no one needed lol

Seriously someone is gonna come leave a comment and be downvoted and accused of being a scammer in the future now. Great. Just what hive needed lol

Yeah maybe not spend so much time nit picking hive posts and worry more about the FACT that hive is DYING with no active users or marketcap or volume

All slowly dying

Users leaving

But instead of finding ways to get more users were doing this. Scolding people for engaging with your post. Becsuse they didnt vote too? Because you deserve everything pf course

It's getting more hits than 'Tales' even did and that's after just 1 day! I know you used to have a site, and you are probably aware of the demotivated state we can get into when nobody gives a shit and ever looks.

@beaker007's KE site likely get quite a bit of traffic. I too could do a KE checker, but what's the point. That wheel has already been invented.

Ahhhh you went all in for the automation..I love this concept to be honest. I am a rewarder and replier always on everything that comes at a reply to my post...But when I see someone go for the 'nice post' reply I also head over to their profile to see how in general the replies to others are as well

The shorter the reply, the shorter my reply..And if this is the same for all posts by that individual, then it will also only be a 0.000001 reward.

But digging the automation for sure! This would be decent for every whale to do some better skimming and making the shitposting less attractive

I work in IT Automation, so it's quite difficult for me to prise myself off when I can see things that need to be done that will benefit me, and save time.

I don't know whether to polish this a little more, or add another tool to the library. Maybe neither until my code head starts whirring again.

I know some commenters won't have enough HP to be worth leaving a vote, so I judge on the quality of their comments. What would be neat is to make a browser extension that gives indications in peakd. I know such things are possible, but have no idea how to do it.

I have various scripts I use that I could look at making available, but I have a bit to learn about how that works.

Thats why we never vite anymore and send all our hivepower to delegation services (which are just bid bits which i have no idea are allowed to operate while others arent allowed to] thats why no one likes hive btw full of double standards and nit picking nerd whales who rage quit steem after being bested fair in square and made their own blockchain which no one wants to use and whose price and marketcap never even surpassed steems

Hive Deserves Better: Exposing Hypocrisy & Fighting for Fairness

For too long, vote selling has thrived on Hive—hidden in shadows or brazenly paraded. But isn’t it absurd that the very actors who farm, scam, and exploit Hive the hardest are the first to point fingers at smaller creators?

We’ve exposed scams like Buildawhale, yet the comment farms and payout schemes persist. No action is taken against the real culprits, while honest creators face relentless downvotes and attacks. How can Hive grow when those claiming to support it are the same ones powering down rewards, selling every last token, and treating Hive like a personal ATM?

Hive is not a bank. It’s a community built on creativity, innovation, and mutual respect. Yet, ex-bid bots and vote manipulators now weaponize their power to silence critics and suppress truth-tellers. Attacking those who expose flaws won’t erase the reality: transactions on the blockchain don’t lie.

The louder they shout, the clearer the truth becomes: Hive’s growth is stifled by greed. But we refuse to stay silent.

Join Bilpcoin in demanding accountability. Let’s protect creators, reward authenticity, and shut down the hypocrisy.

It is nice to navigate to other people scripts… i learned a lot doing that! One of these days I was trying to get some ideas looking at steevc scripts 😹.
I do that at my regular work as well. I needed to apply some tools to a pipeline , I found another pipeline that was using some stuff that i need but the rest I wasn’t interested! Mostly copied the logic that I wanted!

I love this...It's so rude, I think, to comment and not give even a tiny vote. Also, generic comments that don't relate to the post at all... irritating. I'm torn between ignoring them and giving them a barely registering vote of acknowledgement.

You have some great tools at your fingertips :) Lots of coding.

to comment and not give even a tiny vote.

So do I.., I know many have little stake but its a token gesture of appreciation, and not necessarily the value that counts. Maybe it's just a me thing?

Weirdos are usually very talented people who look in another direction... do what you think is right.
