Share Our World: Highlights of my stay in Hertfordshire, England

avatar

This summer I was able to spend 3.5 weeks in England. I had a great mix of staying in a big city (London), university town (Cambridge), the sea side (Cornwall) and rural England (Hertfordshire, Wiltshire and Somerset). I spent about three days Hertfordshire, which is north of London on the way to take classes at Cambridge.

Here are the highlights of Hertfordshire, England.

Much Hadham

I rented a cottage in the village of Much Hadham and walked to Henry Moore's house and gardens. I shopped at the local store for groceries and got fish and chips at the truck that comes to town on Friday nights in the summer months.

This a quite little village (population 2,087 as of 2011) with houses that all have names!

Henry Moore Studios and Gardens

The main reason I stopped in Hertfordshire is to go to Henry Moore Studios and Gardens. I am a big fan of his art and wanted to walk around the estate and see so many of his Sculptures in one place.

It was wonderful. It even rained on the second day and that was great too.

The countryside

Here is the path I took from my Airbnb to Henry Moore.

Here is the path I took from Henry Moore to the Airbnb. I did get lost. I found my way and got to go through a sheep farm and on a forest path.

Harlow

I went to church and ate lunch in Harlow. This city is known as Harlow Sculpture Town and has over 100 public art works throughout the city.

There is so much to Hertfordshire, these are a few hightlights from the three days I spent there this summer.

Oh here are some more wonderful views from the train ride from Harlow to Cambridge.

Hi @sebascraft thank you for your comment. It was magical. The sculptures are by Henry Moore. He adored sheep and it was so fun getting lost and finding myself in his sheep farm. Here is one of the sketches he did of his sheep at the Tate Britain Museum in London.

Hertfordshire looks so peaceful and charming the countryside paths, cottages, and sculptures sound like the perfect mix of art and nature. I love that the houses even have names, it adds such a cozy and personal touch! Your story about getting lost and ending up in a sheep farm made me smile sometimes those unexpected detours become the best part of the adventure.
