Grab a Cup of Matcha before Going Home
Hello Hivers in this Brewville community. I'm back after a while of not writing here. This time I want to share my experience about Hunting Matcha, since Matcha drinks are happening everywhere.
That day, my friend and I didn't intend to drink matcha, to be honest. We planned to just stop by Sun Plaza Medan for a while to buy some necessities, but instead our feet stepped into a spot that looked fresh and green from afar: Origami Matcha.
The location is really easy to find—it's on the Ground floor, near the main atrium area. My first impression? Clean, minimalist, and has a very Japanese vibe. Without realizing it, I was already standing in front of it while glancing at the menu on the board. Seriously, they have quite a lot of matcha variants, from the classic to the out-of-the-box.
Because the weather was hot that afternoon, my friend and I chose two drinks that looked the most refreshing: Honeyed Lemon Matcha and Coconut Matcha. Both were served cold and very aesthetic! The layers are beautiful—there are green, yellow, and white that make you impatient to take pictures before sipping.
🍋 Honeyed Lemon Matcha
This is the Matcha I ordered, the layers of color are really beautiful plus the fresh lemon slices make it look even more beautiful.
First sip: wow, this is so fresh! The lemon tastes natural, not too sour, but fresh and light. The honey in it gives the right touch of sweetness—not too much. Then the matcha is still dominant, so you still get the earthy taste of green tea, but not too bitter. It tastes like… waking up in the morning and immediately opening the window to the garden—fresh, bright, and uplifting. Perfect to accompany the afternoon while cooling your head.
🥥 Coconut Matcha
This is the Matcha my friend ordered. I also tried a little.
Now this one has a very different aura. Calmer, creamier. The fresh taste of the coconut water is soft and blends beautifully with the matcha. It doesn't make you feel nauseous, it's actually a really comfort drink, because it uses pure coconut water, not essence. This drink is perfect if you want to sit back and relax, scroll through your phone or chat with friends. There's a tropical feel that makes me think of sitting on the beach, even though it's still in the middle of a mall. 😄
In addition to those two, Origami Matcha also has other variants such as Dirty Matcha (matcha + espresso), Strawberry Matcha, and there are also non-dairy milk options such as oat and almond.
What I like is that this place doesn't just sell delicious drinks, but also gives you an experience. The staff are friendly, the presentation is really intentional, and all the drinks look aesthetic. Here we can also see the process of making our ordered drinks directly. Basically, every order can immediately become content!
If you're in Medan and stop by Sun Plaza, don't rush home before making time to go to Origami Matcha. Seriously, a glass of matcha can be a sweet and refreshing end to the day.
Have you tried matcha today? Or are you a hard-line coffee team? Also share your coffee or tea stories in the Brewville community! Cheers! ☕🍵
It looks like matcha is gaining more popularity and now become a lot more specialized stores. By the way, it would be cool if you could engage more with others in the community.
Yes, in my city many stores have started selling matcha menus. Thanks for the input, I will engage more with others in this community.
