The Lord Jesus Christ had to get baptized so that He might leave us an example. He was doing that so that he could establish the doctrine which He came to teach us. You can remember that he said to John the Baptist that they should do whatever they were doing in order to fulfill all righteousness.
Obedience does not always need to be what pleases us. We just have to obey because it is expected of us to obey. The christian must be willing always to surrender all inconveniences and accept whatever is the will of God. The will of God is what we must always live to obey.
Baptism is a basic doctrine in the church. It is the doctrine which the Lord Jesus Christ left for us to follow. He whosoever believes should be baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. So being baptized is a standing requirement for us to be the disciples of Jesus Christ.

Baptism was a Jewish practice before Jesus' time on Earth. Priests used to cleanse in a "temple bath" (called a mikveh) before entering the Holy of Holies. Baptism became a universal practice after the crucifixion because the temple's curtain had been torn so there was no longer a separation between the Holy of Holies and the rest of the world. Everyone became "worthy" of the cleansing ritual rather than just the priests.
