Keeping Promises To Our Children. MCGI TOPIC REVIEW
Keeping Promises to people strengthens relationships. Both in our homes and to outsiders, our relationship with each other is lubricated if we keep our promises to one another. Those who are not keeping promises are not trustworthy. It is one of the things which strengthens our growing up together.
While we are trying to impress people, we should be careful not to make promises which we cannot fulfill. There is not compulsion in making promises. We should only commit ourselves to what we will be able to fulfill. When we make promises which we are unable to fulfill, we are binding ourselves with bonds which might affect our life in the future. The Bible warns against making vows which we cannot fulfill.
Our children are happy when as parents are making promises to them. In my country, we can get them to do what we want when we promise them that we will buy something for them. But the sad thing is that many people use it as a way of getting out of the hook. That is a lie. Whatever is wrong is wrong. We should avoid making promises which we cannot fulfill. A surprised gift is a better option.
