Greetings, Happy New Year 2026! I hope this new year brings much happiness, health, and prosperity to all of you, especially to this wonderful community Feathered Friends. After the fireworks in December, I checked to see if the birds and animals that live on my property survived. I was able to help my dogs and cats by giving them a special product for these events, which you can read about here. But I couldn't help the birds and wild animals that live on my property, so I've been observing which ones still live in this area of my house, and fortunately one of the ones I've seen alive is the beautiful Melanospiza bicolor omissa, also known as: Tingüingo, ricebird, tordillo, a bird I've also talked about in another post, which you can read here..

Saludos, feliz año 2026, espero que este nuevo año traiga mucha felicidad, salud y prosperidad para todos ustedes, especialmente para esta hermosa comunidad Feathered Friends. Luego de la pirotecnia de diciembre, estuve revisando si las aves y animales que hacen vida en mi solar sobrevivieron. A mis perros y gatos los pude ayudar suministrándoles un producto especial para estos eventos, producto del cual pueden leer aquí; pero a las aves y animales silvestres que habitan en mi solar no les pude ayudar, así que he estado observando cuáles de ellos siguen viviendo en esta zona de mi casa, y afortunadamente uno de los que he visto con vida es el bonito Melanospiza bicolor omissa, también conocido como: Tingüingo, arrocerito, tordillo, ave de la cual también he hablado en otro post, que pueden leer aquí.

I've seen it several times this first week, and it continues to behave very friendly. In fact, it now comes closer and even basks on the rocks in the sun even when I'm very near. It's a very sweet little bird that, with its dark brown plumage, blends in with its surroundings, and it keeps hopping around, observing everything attentively.

Esta primera semana le he visto en varias ocasiones, y sigue comportándose de manera muy amigable, de hecho, ahora se acerca más, e incluso, se tiende en las piedras a llevar sol aun cuando yo esté muy cerca. Es una pequeña avecilla muy tierna que, con su plumaje pardo oscuro, se confunde con el entorno, y sigue moviéndose con saltitos, mientras observa atentamente.

As usual, I sat down to take pictures near the birdbaths under the guava tree. Besides drinking water there, the birds come to eat some rice or other food I put out for them, and several times this sweet little bird approached me, watching me intently. I'm truly happy it's still alive, even though I haven't seen any others, just this one.

Como de costumbre, me siento a tomar fotos cerca de los bebederos, debajo del árbol de guayabas, pues ahí además de tomar agua, las aves se acercan a comer algo de arroz o de otros alimentos que les coloco, y en varios momentos, esta tierna avecilla se aproximó a mí, observándome con atención. Realmente me siento feliz que aún esté vivo, aunque no he visto otros ejemplares, sólo este.
