Greetings, beautiful Feathered Friends community. Today I want to share some photos of a colorful and beautiful bird I spotted in my backyard. I was there, and I spotted a yellow troupial or gonzalito in flight, a bird that used to be more common in my country, Venezuela, but has been becoming less common in recent years. I watched it and saw it perched on the branches of a tree my neighbor had pruned, so I decided to take some photos.

Saludos, hermosa comunidad Feathered Friends.

Its plumage is so beautiful and vibrant, a gorgeous yellow, contrasting with its black feathers, that its mere presence can brighten up any space. Its song is also very distinctive, very melodic and beautiful. This bird is from the family of the oriole (Icterus icterus), the conoto (Psarocolius decumanus), and the thrushes or torditos (Quiscalus lugubris). It lives in many areas of Venezuela, but especially in the country's plains. It has the peculiarity of building long, hanging nests. Some time ago I saw a nest with these characteristics in a tamarind tree, but it disappeared.

It's a beautiful bird, transmitting joy and beauty. It's a shame it's no longer so common in my area. I suppose it was in my backyard because of the abundance of food there, both fruits and seeds, as well as small insects, worms, and caterpillars. Here's a photo of a ripe guava, so you can see how birds (in general, not just this one) eat its insides when they're ripe.

That note about their long hanging nests caught my eye. They always look like tiny hammocks swaying in the breeze, which fits that lively song. Do you think the recent pruning nearby could be why the old nest vanished, and would leaving a small corner with twigs and dry grasses help invite them back?
