[ESP/ENGL] Morrocoyes season 2023
Every year I make these publications, where I talk about the hatching season of morrocoyes eggs, and it is that every year, between May and July, many land tortoises are born on my site. Last year was the least prolific season, I think it was due to the presence of a tribe of possums that lived in my backyard, who ate the hatchlings or the eggs; however, I haven't seen them there for months, and I attribute that to the number of morrocoyes I've found. Anualmente hago estas publicaciones, en donde hablo de la temporada de eclosión de huevos de morrocoyes, y es que cada año, entre mayo y julio, nacen muchas tortugas de tierra en mi solar. El año pasado fue la temporada menos prolífica, creo que fue por la presencia de una tribu de zarigüeyas que habitaban en mi solar, quienes consumían los tortuguillos o los huevos; sin embargo tengo meses que no los veo por allí, y eso le atribuyo la cantidad de morrocoyes que he encontrado. This year's 2023 season started early. The first copy I found was on the afternoon of Sunday, May 7. This turtle is very particular because it is very round. Generally these animals have an oval body. I was observing her and I also noticed that she is too calm, as if she had limitations in her development, because she is not very curious, she does not seek to get out of the place where she is. Perhaps this roundness is a sign of that condition. As you can see in the following photos, it was very small when I found it a little over a month ago.
La temporada de este año 2023, comenzó temprano. El primer ejemplar que encontré lo hice la tarde del domingo 7 de mayo. Esta tortuga es muy particular porque es muy redonda. Generalmente estos animales tiene el cuerpo ovalado. La estuve observando y también noté que es demasiado tranquila, como si tuviese limitaciones en su desarrollo, pues no es muy curiosa, no busca salirse del sitio en donde está. Quizás esta redondez es señal de esa condición. Como pueden ver en las siguientes fotos, era muy pequeña cuando la encontré hace un poco más de un mes atrás.
All the specimens that I have found until yesterday, Sunday, June 11, 2023, correspond to the species of red-legged morrocoy or sabanero (Chelonoidis carbonaria). Here I share photos of the moments in which I have found them. Photos of two of the specimens are missing at the time of picking them up from the backyard, except that in those days I did not have my smartphone with me, I could not photograph those moments. The last photos correspond to one of the smallest turtles, as you can see it is much smaller than the head of Mr. Morrocoy.
Todos los ejemplares que he encontrado hasta ayer domingo 11 de junio 2023 corresponden a la especie de morrocoy de patas rojas o sabanero (Chelonoidis carbonaria). Aquí les comparto fotos de los momentos en que les he encontrado. Faltan fotos de dos de los ejemplares al momento de recogerlos del solar, sólo que en esos días no llevaba conmigo mi teléfono inteligente, no pude fotografiar esos momentos. Las últimas fotos correspoden a una de las tortuguillas más pequeñas, como pueden ver es mucho más pequeña que la cabeza del Señor Morrocoy.

I generally keep them in a deep pot, so that they are sheltered, however once or twice a day I take them out and take them to sunbathe and eat. Here they were sunbathing and eating a few pieces of plantain. They must be fed 3 to 4 times a day, since their stomachs are very small, and they can only consume fruits, leaves, vegetables, but finely chopped. They should also be supplied with clean water on a daily basis.
Generalmente las guardo en una maceta profunda, para que estén resguardadas, sin embargo una o dos veces al día las saco y las llevo a que tomen sol y coman. Aquí estaban asoleándose y comiendo unos trocitos de plátano. Deben ser alimentadas de 3 a 4 veces diarias, ya que sus estómagos son muy pequeños, y sólo pueden consumir frutas, hojas, vegetales pero menudamente picados. También se les debe suministrar agua limpia a diario.

Que hermosas!!!, qué bueno que las cuidas y estas pendiente de ellas, son animales muy nobles, en casa tengo una y se llama hanna, cuando la trajeron era muy pequeña, ahora está muy grande y yo le hablo y ella viene para donde estoy y cuando mi esposo riega las matas ella sale a su encuentro para que la bañe🤗
