Believe in your intuition
One of the most commonly used phrases in all of the art and literature is the phrase, "intuition is only a feeling." There are many arguments, however, for the fact that this is a false statement. My question to you, then, is what exactly is the definition of intuition and how does your 'inner' intuition differ from your 'conscious' intuition? Allow me to answer these questions for you.
Intuition comes from the Latin root - intuitionis. It means "of or relating to intuition." This definition is a bit problematic, however, because there is a lot more to intuition than just relating to it. If you were to ever ask an expert if you had a headache, they would most likely tell you no. The expert may well then demonstrate that the pain is due to a preexisting medical condition, and once again, the brain is playing tricks.
I'll use an example from my own life to illustrate the point that it isn't only the mind playing tricks on us. Recently, I watched Michael Jordan flies through the air while spinning in mid-flight. He made almost a perfect spiral turn as he went from left to right, and his follow-through was incredible. You can argue that his intuition was so strong, he had to instinctively do it.
But then what is intuition? Intuition is something that is in you subconscious while you're awake. It is a tiny voice in your head that says, "I'm going to do this," or "I'm going to get this result," or even "I'm going to feel this way." When you are awake, however, your conscious mind is very busy making decisions, and you may not be paying attention to your intuition.
In short, the human brain is so busy making decisions, our intuition tends to fade away until we are actually in the middle of a decision making process and our intuition is well and truly gone. However, when you are asleep, or deep in the subconscious, you can hear those same intonations from your inner brain, and then it becomes a problem. If you ever wonder whether or not you're being influenced by your conscious or subconscious at any particular moment, you can try counting backwards while keeping your eyes closed. This counting will stop your conscious mind from processing information that could influence your actions later in life.
So, in conclusion, if you ever get into a situation that you have no idea how to handle, remember your intuition. Trust it. Listen to it. Trust yourself. It is there to guide you. Just like the cloud in the sky, it will act as a protective barrier to protect you from the storms raging outside.
Our minds are so busy with idle chatter. We need to sit in silence and let thoughts come and go. What we need to hear will eventually come to us.
