Working with clay ❤️
An happy Tuesday to all hivers here!
Yesterday, after the dinner, there was a lesson of the clay art class inside our lab. My hubby @paolobeneforti started his way on art (around 35 years ago) as a sculptor and along the time he sculpted different materials from the marble to the clay (the argilla). Maybe you don't know it, but the sculpt could be do in 2 different way: carving (the removal of material, for example to sculpt rocks or wood) and modelling (adding material, the case of clay). Both are really interesting way, even if the first one usually is harder because in some cases (like for marble) you need to have good muscles on your arms 😁. I like both of them, but, to be honest, modelling clay is more relaxing. ❤️
While my hubby teach to his students, I use to sit between them to work on my own pieces. I like to sculpt small pieces in different forms, trying to make something to represent my own illustrative style.
As I wrote before, after the first step of modelling I need to wait the piece is dry enough to cook it in the oven and I painted the pieces you can see in these pics directly on the bisque using acrylics or oil colors to understand if they can work in a way I like.
During this week I worked on some shapes similar to the birds I painted during in the previous days. The one I made around 6/7 days ago are almost dry and I could smooth them (their color is light grey), while the ones I made yesterday needs other some days (they are in grey color):
Stay tuned to see the final reselt of my new terracotta pieces.
See ya soon and stay safe,
Silvia

What a beautiful piece of work! You reminded me of my grandmother who worked with clay; she taught me some techniques when I was little.
