A striped church in my city: San Giovanni Fuorcivitas (Pistoia)
Hello hivers, an happy Wednesday to you all!
It's a lot of time since I shared with some beautiful corners in my city (Pistoia, Italy) and so today I want to share with you one of the (many) striped churches we have here: the San Giovanni Fuorcivitas church.
This beautiful ancient building is a Romanesque church (There is also another small building adjacent to it in the same style. Just to know, the word "fuorcivitas" in the name of this church is an adjective fuoricivitas that means "outside the city". This is because, even if now that place is in the center of my city, in the ancient time that place was out of the city walls.
Watching the pics you can think the stripes are white and black, but they are white and dark gree because the stones used are marble (the white) and serpentine (a stone with beautiful shades of dark green), very common stones around my area.
In the first pic of this content you watched the northern flank where there are a beautiful portal and very interesting decorations:
The wonderful decorated architrave of the portal was sculpted in the 1166 by Gruamonte, te same who sculpted another portal of a church in my city.
Inside this church there is a wonderful sculpture in white ceramic glaze depicting the "Visitation" by Luca della Robbia, a very known piece of art in my city, but when I took these pics I didn't have time to go inside of it to take some pics of the "Visitation", sorry.

I've never seen such a striped building in my life and this is not even painted as it's made of stone. I know a lot abut Italy and admire the architecture a lot, and not only :) Lovely!
Here in my city there are a lot of similar buildings. Pistoia is like a small Florence, there are a lot of beautiful corners full of ancient beauties, but fortunately is less expensive than Florence. :P
