Wednesday Walk: Cruising

You might be surprised to learn that cruising has a lot of hidden perks in addition to the apparent advantages of a nearly all-inclusive holiday with a prearranged schedule.

cruise1.jpg

Cruises, for starters, provide the luxury of unadulterated leisure time, which is sorely lacking in America.

When was the last time you didn't have to waste valuable mental energy worrying about who would watch the kids, how supper would be prepared, whether anything needed to be cleaned, etc., etc.

cruise2.jpg

Many of us utilize our scheduled days off to catch up on neglected household tasks. Experiencing complete relief from work-related stress and paralysis is understandable in a world where both conditions are commonplace.

cruise3.jpg

Almost everyone agrees that going on a cruise makes it necessary to temporarily put away one's phone, which reduces loneliness.

Technology can be a double-edged sword in this regard; while it provides us with continual communication via social media and never-ending pings, it frequently fosters a very little sense of community.

cruise4.jpg

You can, however, put the phone away without thinking and instead take delight in the straightforward thrill of making new friends while out at sea, where wi-fi is scarcely worth the exorbitant cost.

Social cut-off-ness of real life is contrasted sharply with the personal attention you receive from all those around you, including personnel, servers, and fellow passengers.

Additionally, you are free to enjoy the beauty of your own thoughts throughout your social media detox (if you are an introvert and find this scenario to be terrifying) which, to be honest, could still be helpful in terms of the loneliness issue.

Traveling on cruises exposes us to extremely healing elements—physical activity, music, art, and nature—that most of us receive far too little of.

These are beneficial to our physical and emotional health, and cruise passengers are exposed to a wide variety of these natural cures while they relax in the sun, take in the ocean waves, take in live music, and perhaps even dance a bit.

cruise14.jpg

There's probably no better way to experience the world's tastiest and finest specialties than by cruise. The popularity of cruising keeps growing, which means that there are more and more options available for planning the ideal getaway.

While luxury cruise lines keep things sophisticated, beautiful, and cutting edge, mainstream cruise lines provide an overwhelming variety of amenities, activities, and itineraries.

cruise9.jpg

Cruise eating is not an exemption!

For the curious epicures, some of the finest cruise lines for foodies for any budget - be it economical cruises, premium cruises, or luxury cruises.

cruise10.jpg

The larger ships operated by mainstream cruise lines typically come with lower cruise costs, lots of activities, and exciting entertainment options. A wide variety of food options, including room service, 24-hour buffets, barbecues by the pool, and sophisticated specialty restaurants, are also features of the majority.

cruise11a.jpg

These cruise lines offer bright, colorful, lively, energetic cities at sea that appeal to families, low-cost travelers, large groups, and younger travelers.

cruise12.jpg

Some of the greatest bargain cruises available are offered by companies, although foodies should be advised that many specialty restaurants have additional fees for their beers, wines, cocktails, and spirits, which can add up to a substantial amount on the final bill.

That looks like so much fun right now! I wish I were taking a cruise right now! lol

Of course the booze aren't included, if they did an all inclusive with those added in I bet the price would jump substantially!

I took the "Ultimate Refreshment Package" which is the non-alcoholic drink package. It was not substantial.. all the water, coffee, tea of all sorts, juices, no-alcoholic drinks (the strawberry daiquiri is good!). The Drink Package cost $75/day!
The temperatures are just mild. I think September and October are ideal, for me anyway, because it does not cost so much in-between regular vacation days (spring break, summer, winter).

Looks awesome. I've never taken a cruise, but I lived on a cruise ship in 2010 for 3 months in Gastown Vancouver. The food was amazing.

My working cruise some years back did have it's beneficial times. I think it was under the Celebrity lines. I gained a few pounds, visited the Klondike themed stops, challenged my improvisational skills and I was able to bring my kids too. But there were times I worried about the pets, my house and hoped I didn't forget a bill remaining unpaid.

Always, with love 🤗🌺❤️

It is nice to have that experience, and to bring the kids with you is a plus. I "interviewed" one of the waiters, and they have a different contract from yours, because they are away from family seven months at a time.
Take care, sis, and much !LUV to you 🤗🌺❤️
You are always in my thought.

Definitely food for thought.....(pun intended, lol!). The food looks lovely as does the atmosphere. You are right; we rarely if ever truly have absolutely nothing to worry about doing even on off days, as we are busy trying to catch up what we failed to get done in the first place.

I'm not sure what that might feel like! Pretty good I imagine!

Thanks for sharing the lovely pictures sis! Enjoy your time on the cruise! Love ya much!🤗😘😍💜🍁🌻 !LADY !LUV !HOPE !PIMP !LOLZ

I would like to do a cruise in the future for the wife. I have been on ships enough in my life, I have no desire to spend time on another, even if it has more luxury than a Navy ship. However, for my wife, I would suffer through such meals and entertainment. :-)

I bet this is totally different and much more luxurious, and your wife will enjoy it! Yes, suffer through the meals and entertainment for her !LOL :-)

Nice 👍👍👍 where are you cruising to this time ?

My husband enjoys cruising because of the food, but at the moment we still prefer normal holidays. When we get much much older and I don't have the energy to plan my itinerary perhaps we'll switch over to more cruising

This time to Mexico!
It has its advantages, but I don't do it often.
The last cruise I've been to was seven years ago. It was a repositioning cruise from San Francisco to Canada.
In 2026, my sorority sisters and I will go the Canada & New England, probably around the same as time as this one.
Thank you, @livinguktaiwan !

I totally agree with you when you say that technology does very little to foster a sense of community. Although technology is a fundamental part of our lives, for example, I work from home and use technology all the time. When I receive messages from friends or family, I do NOT give them priority. The priority is set by each individual. But getting people together in person is already complicated enough and social interaction should be essential.
I wish you a happy day and thank you for sharing the travel

I went on a cruise once. Living in a facility that has 24 hour pizza is dangerous. If they have that, please be careful. 🤣
