Wednesday Walk and Camellia Flowers

As always, I have my room reserved for me! The carpets were changed from last year as ordered because the old carpets were starting to show wear. The furnitures are exactly the same, which is alright, I guess. I've had the same pieces of furniture for years and years! And plenty for my needs.

Outside my window, there’s a Camellia in the garden. It’s the first thing I see when I open the curtains, and I always end up looking at it whenever I glance outside.

I usually visit in the fall and early spring, and it happens to bloom right during those seasons.

My room is on the first floor, overlooking the garden. A few steps lead down to the inner garden, where my father’s tree stands.

Those who are close to me know what tree I am referring to.
But I want to show you the Camillia.
A camellia is a genus of rugged, evergreen shrubs or small trees in the Theaceae family, renowned for their glossy green foliage and showy, rose-like flowers that bloom in late fall, winter, and spring.
People call Camellias the “queen of winter flowers,” and this one has been here for ages, brightening the garden from October all the way into May.

Interesting Facts:
- Named for Georg Josef Kamel, a Moravian Jesuit missionary who >- studied plants in the Philippines. There are over 2000 cultivars of this species.
- Camellias were brought to America in the late 18th century and soon became a fixture in southern gardens.
- Related to the tea plant, the Camellia’s flower was a garden treasure in China long before the flower was introduced to Western civilization. The Camellia, it’s no surprise, is the plant from which Earl Grey and other popular teas are made.
- Camellia sasanqua blooms in the fall, Camellia sinensis is the source of commercial tea.
- Flower forms include single, semi-double, anemone, peony, rose double and formal double.

Beautiful crimson blooms.
Oh how I wish I could have a longer growing season in my region. I'll take what I can get. At least my Crocus are peeking out early thanks to the mild lack of winter this time around.
Always, with Love 🤗🌺❤️

Always beautiful to see. They are very common around most of Japan, planted all over in the public parks.
