Walk through the Garden

I planted Zinnias in between the corn and tomatoes.

Zinnias are annuals, meaning that after flowering and setting seeds
for a season, the original plant will not return in the following years.

Flower14.jpg

These are so easy to plant since you sow zinnia seeds just 1/4 inch deep. Zinnia plants do not like to be moved, so I started them from seed directly in the garden bed. And they grew so fast from seed.

Most zinnia types grow tall and require propping to keep their heavy stems from trailing behind the plant. These aren't tall enough to put stakes in them.

Flower12.jpg

There are three basic types of zinnia flowers: double, semidouble, and single. The number of rows of petals and the visibility of the flower's core determine which of these shapes are which.

The first two photos of zinnia (above) are single;
the ones below are semidouble;
and the last one photo'd is a double!

To promote the formation of new flowers,
I will remove the older blooms from the zinnias.
This is a technique known as "deadheading".

Deadheading flowers involves removing spent or faded flowers from plants to improve their overall appearance and encourage more blooms. Deadheading also prolongs the blooming period of your plants, which helps them live longer.

They are excellent as cutting flowers or as food for butterflies since they have beautiful, solitary, daisy-like flowerheads on a single, tall stem.

I've included a YouTube video on how to deadhead Zinnias.

Being annuals, zinnias will perish
with the first severe frost of the autumn season.

You are a very good gardener @silversaver888!🤗
I learned about deadheading when we lived in Colorado. Liz helped me plant chrysanthemums along the sidewalk. I had beautiful orange flowers all summer as I kept pruning off the old deadheads!😊

I learned about deadheading in my first house. With so many roses to deadhead, I was pretty good at it, @silvertop 😁

Colorado was my first experience deadheading. I was amazed at how beautiful and full the new buds were, and how prolific they can be if you keep up this process!😊

Oh good!!! The flowers are indeed beautiful!
When I was a little girl, I always drew flowers beside my name. My concept of a flower is a Daisy. And when I wanted to put more petals, it was a Zinnia!
Thank you for coming to my blog, sis ,@erigm!

During my school days, years ago, I had colourful zenias at my home garden. My mother was so attached to flowers, her main craze being different colours of roses. These flowers reminded me of those days. You really have colourful zenias. Nice to kearn about deadheading.

Deadheading works quite well a few annuals like my Carnations and both my rose shrubs. I wonder if Zinneas can grow up here on the 49th?
Always, with love 🤗🌺❤️

Zinnias will grow at a minimum daytime temperature of about 60°F (16°C), though a range of 74–84°F (23–28°C) and 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day. Did you say you grow carnations.. then I think so!
Aren't carnations perennial, sis?
Much !LUV, sis 🤗🌺❤️

Those are quite beautiful. I feel a bit bad that I didn't plant a garden at all this year, but it's so much work and I was gone so frequently that I think it would have been a disaster. When I do plat a garden again, I am definitely going to throw some flowers in with the veggies to help bring in the pollinators.

Veggies, flowers, and greenery for some foliage... they are all good, @bozz!

This is how the other side of the garden looks! Talking about disaster! !LOL
This is because I wasn't able to tend to the for three weeks!
