The Library

Next to the kitchen, the dining room, the living room, the family room, the back veranda, the side veranda, the courtyard, the foyer, the receiving room, and before the upstairs bedroom and the ballroom, this is my favorite room.

It has a fireplace, just like every room in the house. If you are wondering if it is ever used, the answer is yes. That is, if I am around and it warrants it. Otherwise, it is absolutely prohibited to use any of the fireplaces. Firewood is not available and is brought in only when needed.

These chairs were made three or four years ago. They were cane-back chairs before. Chairs are important in this room because...

but not until additional decor was placed in room.

While you weren't here
I cried every night.
A million tears fell,
Still my heart wasn't right.

While you weren't here
I did what I could,
Hoping against hope
My decisions were good.

While you weren't here
I gained some in age.
Things just went on
And life turned a page.

While you weren't here
I just tried to go on,
Knowing what didn't kill me
Would only make me strong.

While you weren't here
A whole lot got changed.
My life became different,
My world rearranged.

While you weren't here
I had to learn to be alone,
To stand on my two feet,
To make my own home.

So that's where I am now,
At this stage of my life,
Still scared and alone,
Still coping with strife.

And oh how I wish that
Things could be different,
That I could go back
To a time in the past,

To a time before
You weren't here.

Oh my, so lovely! I have a good friend who's crazy for reading, and she always seeks similar locations where can go and have coffee while reading. Even though I enjoy reading as well, I am not much into what surrounds me... unless it is in nature!

A library reminds me of times where events were slower, calmer, time to think uninterrupted.
Before computers, smartphones and the noise of the world at our fingertips.

My sister and her husband used to live in an old house in a town on the banks of the Mississippi river in Illinois. It was a huge house and they had a room with lots of built in shelves made of dark wood. That was there library and they spent a lot of time in there. This makes me think of that house.

Wow, it must have been a beautiful house, @bozz! Dark wood gives a cozy and warm atmosphere. So appropriate for a library!

It was pretty cool. It had a back stairway that lead right to the kitchen from what used to be the staff quarters. It was kind of creepy sleeping upstairs during a summer storm, but it was a cool place.

I LOVE libraries! I have this image in my head of what I want in a library. I want a good sized room with a fireplace in it. I want a large wooden desk with drawers and a matching chair. I want floor to ceiling bookshelves on each side, left and right of the desk, and on the last (outside) wall, I want a large window and/or patio doors to let lots of light in! All done in natural wood tones. On the floor, Saltillo tiles with an area rug of rustic theme under the desk. If the room is large enough, a small area for a small table and either a love seat or two overstuffed comfy chairs to sit in and read, also of a rustic them.

Think I'll ever get it?
