Sublime Sunday: I Baked a Cake

I baked a cake today. Nothing dramatic... just me in the kitchen doing my usual stuff.

I wasn’t trying to make it a whole production. I only grabbed my phone here and there, mostly out of habit, and the photos show it. I was too focused on the actual baking to care.

The process itself was the usual... mix, adjust, keep going. It’s familiar enough that I don’t overthink it anymore. There’s no pressure, no performance, just the simple act of baking something good.

When it came out of the oven, it looked exactly how I expected. A little uneven on top, smelling like it should, and perfectly soft and light.

I thought I'd make a not-to-sweet filling and whipped cream frosting!

I had some fresh strawberries.

Hmmm...it is not impressive, but it's honest. They’re basically proof that I was busy living the moment instead of staging it.

I didn’t bother with a big reveal photo or a perfect slice.

I immediately cut into it and ate half of it! And yes—it was delicious. As always. At this point, I’d be more surprised if it wasn’t.

So that’s it. I baked a cake. I took some messy photos. The cake turned out great. Nothing fancy, nothing deep—just a good cake on a regular day.

It looks amazing and I'm sure it tastes great too. I love these kinds of plates; desserts look twice as delicious on them.

Who cares how it looks, so long as it tastes good, right? I've had plenty of cakes that looked beautiful and were underwhelming in taste.

Looks great! I love berries! Made a lemon pound cake, mixed in whole raspberries and did a light glaze on it once, it was a big hit!

This one uses eggwhites for leavening! I love how I make cakes. I do it second nature!!! I do it with raspberries and blueberries too!

Visually tempting Sis. I probably would have the berries only with my choice in foods become more limited. Meanwhile I'm working on baking simple fresh breads without any artificial ingredients as one of my home projects. Trying to source a specialty non-gmo flour around here.

I haven't discussed that part of my diet control, I anticipate him recommending Brewer's yeast but for now regular yeast is fine.
