Sublime Sunday and Calamansi Tree

IMG_5579.JPG

I got this Calamasi Tree a year ago. It's a type of citrus plant. I saw it in one of my trips to the nursery, so I bought it. It must be a year old then, and was just a twig.

The GardenersWorld.Com describes the calamondin orange tree, otherwise called citrus calamondin, Phillipine lime, calamansi lime or acid orange, is a small evergreen tree, with glossy mid-green leaves. White, fragrant star-shaped flowers are followed by very attractive small yellow/orange fruit, which are used like lemons or limes in drinks and food, or eaten raw for a pop of sweet-sour flavour, the taste somewhere between a lemon and a satsuma.

This was how it looked before.👉

This is how it looks now!👇

And yes, it has fruits... lots of fruits!

First there were flowers, then the petals fall off...

and out comes the fruit!

This one fruit is almost ready 👇. I will wait for its skin to turn yellow, then I'll harvest it. I am so excited!

I have tasted the calamansi fruit before when I traveled to the Philippines. It has a mild-tasting juice. You can add honey or a little sugar if you want it sweet. Best of all, its juice can be to a marinade for fish or any meat dish! In Manila, I had it as a dipping sauce mixed with fish sauce and chilis for fish, and squeezed a fresh calamansi into the pancit noodles. It made the pancit taste so good, which I think lime or lemon cannot do because calamansi is mild and not too sour.

I am so eager to taste the fruit!

The Maui Seed Company has this photo of calamansi in their Etsy store, in case you are wondering how it looks.

Yes, there were lots of bees when the calamansi tree was flowering. Then every day, I had to sweep up all the petals that fell on the concrete.

Unlike lemons, the calamansi peel is soft and the fruit is tiny small, slightly bigger than marbles, @ekavieka !

Reminds me of my little exotic Kiwi vine I have growing along my deck rails. Small little fruit that look like Kiwi but they are more related to a grape than a real Kiwi fruit. If only I had a longer growing season here I could grow more exotic fruit.

Always, with !LUV 🤗🌺❤️

Ms. Ravenhill @kerrislravenhill ........

For those who may not be Familiar ..........

Kiwifruit, often called kiwi, is a small, oval-shaped fruit with fuzzy brown skin and bright green flesh dotted with tiny, edible black seeds. It has a sweet and tangy flavor, making it a popular addition to various dishes.

I read that you can grow kiwi in a pot. But I do know that they grow pretty much like grapes, only much higher. But how pretty they are!

In my opinion, they are oranges. Here's something I've never heard of in my life: calamansi fruit.

You mentioned many characteristics about its flavor, I'm even more curious. Is the flavor similar to an orange? When you said it can be used in some dishes, I imagined something similar to lemon, but you said it wasn't sour.

I want to try it...
