Stone Fruits on Wednesday Walk

I normally walk around my neighborhood in the evenings and on weekends in the morning.

Our neighborhood is planted with trees, at least one tree per house— and more in some areas. There are a number of fruit trees... mostly rock fruit or Stone fruit trees.

A fruit with a large stone (or pit) in the center is referred to as a stone fruit, sometimes known as a drupe. Soft meat and thin skin characterize these fruits.

These fruits are juicy, flavorful, rich, and exploding with health benefits. They are also fleshy, sweet, and sour.

Here's a list of rock fruits or stone fruits:
Peaches, Cherries, Mangoes, Apriums, Plums, Raspberries, Nectarines, Green Almonds, Apricots, Coconuts, Pluots, Olives, Dates, Lychee, Blackberries, Mulberries, Raspberries... can you add to this list?

Blackberries, mulberries, and raspberries may be the most unexpected stone fruits of all. Technically, these are not berries, but rather stone fruits! They are aggregates of drupelets, as the name implies, are clusters of separate stone fruits that appear to be one fruit.

In the California, a variety of stone fruits are in season from early spring to fall, so there's usually a great to catch the fruits at their prime. While stone fruits are great to eat as is, I cook with them as well!

Peach Cobbler, Tartines with Mozzarella, Basil, and Nectarines, Plum Tart, Blueberry-Apricot Crumble, Cherry Cobbler, Peach Salsa, Cherry Pie (with Sweet Cherries), Plum Jam, Apricot Breakfast Pie ... these are some of the recipes I cook stone fruits with!

Hello @mnurhiver! There are many fruit trees in my neighborhood. You can just pick them! My next-door neighbor has one of the plum tree which I photographed. He doesn't pick the tree!

White peaches are my favorite. I have some cherries for my lunch today! I don't think I have ever heard them called stone fruit before. I kind of always thought that was some stand alone fruit.

I've known them to be stone fruits since I was little. Anything I ate "with rocks in them"- I may not know their names at first, but I know they are rock fruits, !LOL
Enjoy the cherries! They are really sweet, and when they are not, I put salt in them!

We've been getting some killer cherries up here lately. They have an international cherry festival to the north of where I live.

When I saw stone fruit in the title... I really wondered 😂

Quite strange, I've known mangoes and peaches all my life but I haven't once seen the tree.

I'm not surprised. Some city-kids grow up without knowing the origin of the food they eat. That is why field trips to farms are essential.

Stone fruits are delicious, very versatile in what you are able to use them in. Enjoy your village walks having a fresh one on the go.
