Purple Flowers

These purple flowers are Osteospermum or African daisies.
They come in different varieties and different flowers...
yellow, white, apricot-tan, peach...
and I like these purple ones the most!

Osteospermum are pretty popular in our neighborhood. Its blooms are so attractive. I guess I like it because Osteospermum are simple flowers that are daisy-like in appearance.

I recall that when I was little,
I always drew flowers as daisies.
Then when I was in middle school,
I would dot the letter " i "
in my name with a daisy flower.
I don't do that anymore...
it makes me wonder when I stopped doing that
and why.

The flowers go from soft lavender to very purple. It has a deep bluish center with yellows. Very pretty, indeed! Next to pink, the color purple is my favorite. It is regal!

Why is Purple Considered the Color of Royalty?

The reason for purple’s regal reputation comes down to a simple case of supply and demand. For centuries, the purple dye trade was centered in the ancient Phoenician city of Tyre in modern day Lebanon. The Phoenicians’ “Tyrian purple” came from a species of sea snail now known as Bolinus brandaris, and it was so exceedingly rare that it became worth its weight in gold. To harvest it, dye-makers had to crack open the snail’s shell, extract a purple-producing mucus and expose it to sunlight for a precise amount of time. It took as many as 250,000 mollusks to yield just one ounce of usable dye, but the result was a vibrant and long-lasting shade of purple.

Osteospermum are perennial flowers! They start blooming in spring. They love the sun, and enjoy the California weather... like me!

I didn't know much about these flowers before, but after reading your post, I learned a lot. The colors of the flowers are different, but they look much more beautiful in each color.

Those are pretty! I don't have any of those in my yard. I like Cali weather too, I keep thinking that maybe it's time to sell and go somewhere less expensive but I really would miss the weather and the proximity to the beach. Then all of the great food items nearby... I'm still here! I have been considering Florida though, I can do some more treasure hunting again!

I think a lot about that too. I don't like everything in California, but it is home. And I will be here, always, @thebighigg !
