Old Canadian Coins

I buy a lot of modern bullion, but I also buy old coins.

Here are some of my favorite Canadian coins.

1958 Canada Dollar

A circulating silver Commemorative Coin, commemorating the 100th Anniversary of British Columbia. A totem pole before coastal mountains.

The obverse shows the portrait in right profile of Elizabeth II when she was 27 years old. The coin bear the lettering: ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA M G. the translation is Elizabeth II Queen by the grace of God. The Engraver was Mary Gillick.

In the islands and coastal regions of North America's Pacific Northwest, particularly in British Columbia, Canada, and the coastal regions of Washington and southeastern Alaska in the United States, totem poles play an essential role in illustrating family history and the cultural heritage of the Native peoples.Source

1965 Canada Silver Dollar

A voyageur and an aboriginal traveling by canoe, carrying bundles of which one bears the initials "HB" for Hudson's Bay Company, with the denomination at the bottom and the country name at the top. Engraver: Emanuel Otto Hahn.

Obverse: The portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right from when she was 39 years old. The inscription is ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA which is translated: Elizabeth II, Queen by the grace of God. Engraver: Arnold Machin

We refer to the design of the obverse as the "long neck" queen. I love this profile of Elizabeth.

The voyageurs were 18th and 19th century French Canadians who engaged in the transporting of furs via canoe during the peak of the North American fur trade. The emblematic meaning of the term applies to places and times where transportation of materials was mainly over long distances. The voyageurs were regarded as legendary. They were heroes celebrated in folklore and music. For reasons of promised celebrity status and wealth, this position was coveted. Source

A circulating silver Commemorative Coin, commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Canada

Reverse: A Canada goose in flight is surrounded with the dates "1867-1967", the face value and the inscription "CANADA". Engraver: Alex Colville

Obverse: The portrait in right profile of Elizabeth II, when she was 39 years old. She is surrounded with the inscription "ELIZABETH II D • G • REGINA" (Elizabeth II, Queen by the grace of God). Designer: Arnold Machin.

Resonates with me as most of my 64 Canadian Silver dollars were from my Father's estate my favorite being the 1949 Newfoundland commemorative because it always stood out in his collection of Silver dollars.

Always, with love 🤗🌺❤️

Great picks from the series 👍

These coins (pre 68 $1) are my All Time Fave for hand feel. I can imagine feeling like quite the dandy going out with a pocket full of ‘em — on my way to some smoky whiskey bar 🤩👍

I understand that the goose is a common coin. I bought the 100 commemorative.
I agree, I too like the other two.

Those are the correct things to buy. Get yourself a 1949 dollar, then seek a Regina dollar and Vancouver dollar... hey, maybe there's a Canadian that could help with that 🤔... wait til you go down the Pre- confederation Newfoundland coins rabbit hole... that's where I am.

Ms. Saver @silversaver888
I Learned something NEW Today........ More Visited than the Empire State Building in New York City!
F57ddisWUAEX2o6.jpg
St. Patrick's Cathedral - a spectacular Gothic sanctuary in the heart of New York City. Completed in 1878, it's the largest Catholic cathedral in the US, and a symbol of the triumph of religious freedom in America.

It's also a triumph of Gothic Revivalism, executed on such scale that it occupies an entire city block. The design is the work of architect James Renwick Jr., and pays tribute to the great Medieval Gothic works of Europe. The mighty octagonal towers (330 feet tall) are a clear nod to the soaring spires of Cologne.

Entering the dramatic interior, with its vaulted ceiling and dazzling stained glass, is an experience comparable to some of the finest cathedrals of Europe. The exterior is adorned in white marble cladding, creating a striking contrast with the city.

The architectural grandeur is a fitting symbol of the resilience of Catholics who had been banned from public prayer by the Dutch and British colonial authorities, and stands as a testament to their perseverance in establishing a place of worship in the city.

Unsurprisingly, it's one of the most visited buildings in America, welcoming 5 million people through its doors every year - more than the Empire State Building.

They are all lovely, but my favorite of the three is the Hudson Bay Canoe coin. It kind of fits in with that western theme I like so well. Thanks for sharing sis and have a lovely day! hugs and kisses!🤗😘🌸💖 !LADY !LUV
