🌼 Noticing What I Used to Miss

I had the professionals come out again to do routine floor maintenance. They parked their van in the middle of my garage, so I had to leave my car on the street.

I noticed a California poppy growing by the sidewalk. It stopped me for a second because the color was so bright. Those orange petals really pop in the sun. It’s the state flower, so it is kind of cool to see it just growing there on its own.

It made the very short walk to the house nicer. I wasn’t expecting anything interesting on such a quick walk. The fiery color really brightened things up.

I was still feeling that little lift in my mood as I got closer to the house. That’s when I noticed all the yellow flowers I’d been walking past without a second thought. It honestly felt like they’d been waiting for me to finally look down and notice them.

Look... the yellow color even matches the fire hydrant. I don’t know why, but that little detail made me smile. It’s like everything decided to coordinate just for me.

I caught myself staring and thinking, I wonder what flowers these are. They have this easy charm about them. Now, I'm curious! I wasn’t expecting to care, but I am completely drawn in.

These flowers feel like a small surprise waiting on the sidewalk.
And it adds a nice bit of joy to the day.

I absolutely love California poppies @silversaver888 !!🤗
At our house in Colorado we had Poppy's growing on the sidewalk leading up to the front door....
In a cold winter climate this was one of the few flowers that grew in the summertime and without any watering it!
They add so much beauty to the landscape my friend!!😀

Most definitely, @silvertop ! My neighbor, two houses down, planted her front yard with California Golden Poppy! It is a sight to behold during the summer. I should take a photo of it!

From a distance they almost look like Queen Anne's Lace, but I have never seen that in yellow and I think that is actually a weed, so probably not even close to being the same.

Yes, they are so pretty and cheerful! And once established, they keep coming back.

The yellow is definitely some kind of yarrow.

I love California poppies! When I was young my mother used to grow them in the yard, and since living in California it's so nice to see them grow wild. Then the super blooms on the mountains are spectacular, with giant poppy orange patches!

It is funny how you miss things when we follow our routines. Just parking in front you got to see some beautiful flowers you usually miss. That was worth the walk! Still it was rude of them to park in the driveway, most of those guys park in the street as a courtesy!

The flowers are beautiful sis and unexpected! I don't know if it's early for them, there or not, but nothing like that is going on here for sure! It's 40 degrees as I type this with the wind blowing making it feel colder. It's also dark and cloudy; makes me actually wonder if it's truly daylight savings time as it acts like it's January out there!

This is like a reminder for us to slow down from our busy lives and take in the hidden beauty we would have otherwise miss or take for granted. Since retiring from my Nursing position I've come to appreciate more the details, better quality time with my boys, participating in the interests of my extended family, deepening some of my old friendships and noticing an out of place flower.
