Mom's Favorite, My Ritual on Sublime Sunday

The refrigerator was well-stocked and full of options. I reached for the familiar: broccoli, cauliflower, beans, mushrooms, cabbage, carrots, and shrimps.

The ingredients were chosen not for any reason but for the memory. Because I was not cooking just to eat... I was cooking to remember Chop Suey, the way my Mom loved it.

What mattered was the ritual, the rhythm, the way the kitchen was filled with the same scent that used to fill our kitchen when she cooked. I could hear her voice in the sizzle, see her smile in the steam rising from the pan.

The pork chops, crisped in the air-fryer... a golden contrast to the vegetables.

It wasn't just dinner.
It is a gathering of textures, of ritual.
A humble celebration.

I could almost smell the kitchen and hear the sizzle. It’s amazing how food can bring back such memories. I do the same when I make my grandma’s soup—it’s like she’s right there with me. Thanks for sharing this heartfelt ritual!

Awesome dinner! Mine is going to be similar tonight but with shrimp only, no pork. Lots of veggies and also a hard boiled egg, how funny! I've been trying to eat a lot healthier lately, I love your posts with these healthy ideas, they're awesome!

Air-fried pork chops, there's an ideal by itself. I haven't tried that yet.
Just the other day my family sat down to an authentic Chinese BBQ Pork stir fry for dinner. 😋

I prepare most of my food from scratch, and usually for two meals. I take the other serving to work, or I eat it the next day.

In the Philippines, we also love Chop Suey 💖 It's one of the common Filipino dishes here, and the way you cooked it was also the same ✨ Sometimes, we put boiled quail eggs along with the veggies 😊 It's so amazing how food and ritual can transport us back to cherished memories 💕

Yum yum... This is my favorite.. especially with shrimp 🍤 😋... My husband makes it every Sunday.. so this dish is something like a Sunday special dish 🤭... But we love it with cornstarch because it makes the sauce thick..

I sometimes make it with zucchinis, or celery, or bell peppers, or sweet peas... sometimes with corn, whatever is available in the refrigerator! It is delicious every time. @vvodjiu !
