Hand Poured Silver Snake

Hiss....

Ah, the distinctive sound of a snake! It's often described as a hiss. This hissing noise is made when a snake forces air through its glottis, a part of its throat. Different species of snakes might have slightly different hisses, but they all have that classic, somewhat eerie quality.

Look at this snake!

To celebrate the Year of the Snake, I'd like to, once again, showcase this standout piece by the then up-and-coming silver pourer, Christopher Sanchez. This beauty was created in 2016, and it really highlights his growing talent and dedication.

image.png

Christopher dedicated his time to casting this intricate item

continuing this labor of love until the end of 2017. Each piece he crafted involved pouring material into a carefully designed mold, which, over a year, experienced so much wear and tear due to the repeated process.

image.png

Ultimately, his mold became unusable

yielding to the strain of constant overuse. The mold finally gave out, marking the end of his meticulous casting endeavors for this type of snake.

The Sanchez Snake

Pour #20, 31.5 grams of .999 fine silver, by Christopher Sanchez.

image.png

I actually like Silver Pour #20.

The mold used to create it is almost halfway to being retired, indicating its limited availability in the near future. This anticipation adds an element of rarity and desirability. The craftsmanship of the mold is evident in the intricate details, especially when you look at the snakeskin scales. These scales are a testament to the mold's ability to capture and reproduce fine textures, which enhance the visual and tactile appeal of Pour#20. The nuanced patterns in the snake skin reflect the aging process of the mold, which has subtly evolved.

The scales, while subtly hinting at the mold's gradual retirement, serve as a narrative of its journey through various production cycles. This makes Pour #20 not just a product but a piece of art that tells a story of its making.

Snake

A poem by Theodore Roethke

I saw a young snake glide
Out of the mottled shade
And hang, limp, on a stone:
A thin mouth, and a tongue
Stayed, in the still air.

It turned; it drew away,
Its shadow bent in half.
It quickened and was gone.

I felt my slow blood warm.
I longed to be that thing.
The pure, sensuous form.

And I may be, some time.

Snakes aren't my thing either, @silvertop. But that hand-poured snake is seriously cool. The craftsmanship is top-notch.

They are awesome. I had Chris pour me one as well. I love how they are all on pieces of a tree.

That is a really cool hand-pour, and really can see the mold wearing down just looking at number 20. Such a beautiful creation he produced, and once the mold wore out no more of those pretty little snakes. Thanks for sharing that @silversaver888 ! It has more "character" than the cobra coin!

It's fascinating to see how the wear and tear on the mold adds a unique touch to each piece, giving it that extra bit of character. The fact that these snakes are limited edition, with no more being produced after the mold wore out, makes them even more special and valuable. The charm of a handcrafted piece lies in its imperfections and individuality, something a mass-produced item like a coin often can't replicate, @thebighigg.🐍✨

Yikes, this makes me think I'd the rattlecam that they have set up watching that den in Colorado.

Those "rattlecams" are fascinating, @bozz! It gives us a unique and often eerie glimpse into the lives of these creatures. 🐍
It’s amazing how technology allows us to see things we otherwise wouldn’t, like the secret world of a rattlesnake den. Nature is full of surprises, isn’t it? They’re a great way to connect with nature from the comfort of your home.
Have you seen any interesting moments captured on the rattlecam?

It's definitely pretty crazy. I actually hate snakes, but I find the rattlecam fascinating. I will check it out from time to time then the shear number of snakes just creeps me out and I have to close the window!

It's a bit like watching a horror movie - you know it's going to get creepy, but you can't help but be drawn in. Just take a breather when it gets too much, and you can always come back to it later. 😅

Not the best, sadly, but I keep going. Lots of interesting twists in my life lately, which also make me be less active on here than I used to.
Hope you are well?

I used to cast things out of lead and tin as a kid. It's a Christmas custom here. I don't think casting silver will be any harder. My problem would be where to get the silver. It stopped paying to mine it here in the 19th century.
