American Pacific Mint Silver Trade Units

I’ve got a lot of Silver Trade Units, and the main design theme is a scale.

Silver Trade Units with the scale design on the back are pretty common pieces from the ’70s and ’80s. That scale usually represents fair trade and accurate weight. Most are 1 oz .999 silver rounds.

These ones are American Pacific Mint (APM) Trade Silver Units.

Originally known as American Pacific Mint Inc., they incorporated in Nevada in September 1965, and later moved to Azusa, California. They purchased Dallas Gold and Silver Exchange in September 1987 for an undisclosed amount. Dallas Gold and Silver Exchange continued operating as a subsidiary of American Pacific Mint. In January 1992, after seeing that subsidiary achieve record results and a 19% jump in profits, American Pacific Mint announced their plan to move their headquarters to Dallas and rename the entire company as Dallas Gold and Silver Exchange. Coins usually come with an official face value stamped on them, since they’re legal tender. Silver rounds don’t have that. A coin has an official face value set by the government, while a round is valued purely for its silver and whatever the market decides at the time.

The value of a Silver Trade Unit right now is generally in the $150 –$500 range. Prices depend on demand, condition, and how difficult a piece is to find. Some Trade Units end up bringing more because collectors like the design or the mintage was on the smaller side.

Wow...... Sounds like it was a good investment for you to stack a few of these silver trade units @silversaver888 !!💪🤗😀
I believe these also came vacuum sealed in strips... Kind of like the old "seal a meal" food sealer!
We have quite a few of these as well!😇

Somewhere in this world, I believe there is a Stacker that collects every Standard Trade Unit round type ever minted. The most comprehensive STD collection ever put together and proud of it.

Always, with Love 🤗🌺❤️
