A Rainy Evening in San Francisco

San Francisco's weather is pretty interesting!

The city has this Mediterranean vibe with dry, sunny summers and wet, rainy winters. From November to March, you can expect most of the rainfall!

Well, it was raining in San Franciso this evening.

Thanks to those Pacific storm systems that roll through. This rain is essential for the region, even if it sometimes means grabbing an umbrella and dealing with a few downpours. Besides, it adds a cozy charm to the city. 🌧️🦢

FasTrak

The toll system on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge has transitioned to all-electronic payments! This means that drivers no longer need to stop at a toll booth to pay; instead, they use the FasTrak system for electronic toll collection. This change helps to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on the bridge.

The toll for the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is $8.00 for cars and motorcycles with two axles. If you're using FasTrak, this is the standard rate.

If you're driving across the Bay Bridge, make sure you have a FasTrak transponder or you'll be billed by mail for the toll.

Palm Trees

I have crossed the Bay Bridge to San Francisco countless times in my lifetime. Some years ago, Golden Palm trees were planted along the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge. The addition of the Golden Palm trees adds a unique and beautiful touch to the bridge, enhancing the experience for those who cross it regularly. It's interesting how such details can turn a routine drive into a memorable journey.

The Bay Bridge is quite an impressive structure!

The western span, closest to San Francisco, reaches a maximum height of about 220 feet above the water, allowing ships to pass beneath it with ease. The newer eastern span, completed in 2013, stands at around 190 feet above the water. With its stunning design and breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay, crossing the Bay Bridge is always an unforgettable experience, especially with the Golden Palm trees lining the new span.

Alcatraz is such a fascinating place with a rich history! The island has been home to a military fort, a military prison, and a notorious federal penitentiary. It's almost like stepping back in time when you visit. The audio tour is especially popular, giving visitors an immersive experience with stories from former inmates and guards.
If you get a chance to go, I recommend booking the tour in advance, as it can fill up quickly. And if you're feeling adventurous, there's even a night tour that adds an extra layer of intrigue.

Beautiful pictures! I love the rain! Here it's been sunny but the next two days should be nothing but rain as well. San Francisco has some beautiful areas, although admittedly it's been a long time since I stayed there. My most recent visit was the airport only for a connecting flight out of Oakland.

The toll roads are getting so expensive, I avoid them whenever possible, but FasTrak is a necessary evil to live in California. Stay warm in the rain, I'll be seeing lots of it the next two days!

Rain has its own charm, doesn't it? There's something about the sound and the fresh smell that comes with it. Did I tell you that I enjoy driving in the rain? !LOL

San Francisco is indeed full of beautiful areas, from the iconic Golden Gate Bridge to the scenic waterfront at Fisherman's Wharf. It's a city with a character all its own. I grew up in The City. And yes, those toll roads can be quite the hassle! FasTrak does make it somewhat easier, though I totally understand the sentiment.

Stay cozy and enjoy the rain over the next couple of days! It can be a good excuse to curl up with a book or watch a favorite movie. How do you usually like to spend your rainy days?

Waiting for rain can feel like waiting for a long-lost friend, especially when you need a break from the heat. Hopefully, when the rain does arrive at the end of March, it will bring a refreshing change. San Francisco’s blend of history, culture, and stunning landscapes truly makes it a place of fascination for many, @stefano.massari! But North Beach, also known as Little Italy, is the perfect spot in San Francisco where I get my Italian fix.
You can grab amazing pastries from Victoria Pastry Co., or taste some mouth-watering focaccia at Liguria Bakery. Or Caffe Trieste, where you can sip on some rich espresso and imagine you're in a scene from "The Godfather." And for pizza, Tony's Pizza Napoletana is an absolute must-visit – it's run by a world-champion pizza maker! The North Bay area has cool landmarks like Coit Tower and a lively nightlife. It’s a great place to wander around and soak up the Italian vibes.

I had no idea that they had rainfall throughout the winter months and dry summer sunny days !😎
This weather pattern actually sounds very similar to what we have up north, sometimes summers can be completely without rain, winter times we get dumped on!😅

I wish I could have spent more time in San Francisco when I was out that way. It's the only time I have ever been to California and it was for work so I had to fly in and then be on the move right away. I got a chance to walk the fisherman's wharf and that was about it.

That must have been a whirlwind trip, @bozz! It’s a shame you didn’t get more time to soak in the city’s vibes, but I bet that walk along Fisherman's Wharf was pretty special. The sights, sounds, and smells of the sea are a true San Francisco experience.
If you ever get a chance to visit again, there’s so much more to explore. You could take a scenic drive down Lombard Street, enjoy the tranquility of the Japanese Tea Garden, or savor the delicious food in North Beach and Chinatown. The FasTrak system was dreamed up by the smart folks at the Transportation Corridor Agencies in Orange County, California, @chinito . They rolled it out in the mid-90s to make toll payments quicker and easier, cut down on traffic jams, and generally make the whole driving experience smoother.

Totally get that, @coinjokerscript1 ! Dirty Harry and all those classic movies really left a mark. San Francisco's got such a distinct vibe that makes it the perfect backdrop for some seriously epic scenes. Those hills, the fog, the Golden Gate Bridge—they all just scream cinematic.

So.......how long is this bridge, sis? I don't do bridges that are long. I have a history with bridges and because of that, refused to go over the Astoria Bridge in Oregon before.

When I was little I can barely remember being at a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco's Chinatown. My parents said we had a relative living there.
