750 Years of Berlin Silver Commemorative Issue
Few places in the world have been through as much as Berlin in just a century. If I must say... Berlin's defining trait is how it keeps on transforming!
This 758th Anniversary coin is a cool reminder of that- history, resilience, and a city that never stops evolving.
1987 Germany 10 Deutsche Mark – 750 Years of Berlin
The obverse features the Federal Eagle, symbolizing Berlin's role as the capital of a unified Germany- first in 1871 (and again in 1991).
The reverse show the Berlin Bear holding the city's medieval seal and the dates 1237 - 1987.
The edge inscription (and I failed to take the photo) has the words EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT which translate to Unity, Justice, and Freedom. That's the heartbeat of post-Wall Berlin from Cold War isolation to democratic renewal.
The bear is Berlin's heraldic symbol. It dates back to medieval times. On the coins, it's holding the city's seal... bridging the past and the present.
The design hints at the Berlin Wall. It's subtle but powerful. In 1987, it was still standing! The quiet symbolism makes it (emotionally) rich, especially hindsight.
This coin doesn't just mark 750 years. It honors a city that never stops becoming.

And one my favorite bands that hail out of Berlin is Rammstein though these gentlemen are not everyone's cup of tea. Anyone with UV sensitive skin inside a 50m perimeter from the stage can get a decent suntan from their pyrotechnic light show that's equal to no one, as a bonus to their brand of music.

I saw them live at Roseland ballroom in NYC in the early 2000’s! It was a crazy awesome live show!

That's beautiful and a great commemorative! I suck at edge shots too and gave them up a long time ago... Just imagine how much buried loot stashes there must be all around the city with long a history, people hiding silver and gold only to never reclaim it. So much more treasure hunting in Europe than here in California!
