2024 Australian Silver Dragon

(Edited)

Australian Dragons are usually out in March or April every year. It was late this year. I didn't acquire them from my usual online dealer. Rather, I got the coins from Monument Metals who happen to be the first to have them. Numista doesn't have it listed yet in their catalog!

Chinese dragons are usually depicted without wings, in contrast to their Western counterparts. According to Chinese belief, they are able to fly using chi, the ethereal life force that penetrates everything. The dragon's ability to fly without wings is a representation of its transcendent character and link to the celestial and earthly domains.

2024 Australian Rectangular Silver Dragon Coin

The 2024 1 oz Rectangular Silver Dragon Coin has a Chinese dragon on the reverse. This year's design displays a stylized depiction of clouds and water against a background of a dragon chasing a burning pearl. On this side is the P125 mint mark, which commemorates the 125th anniversary of Perth Mint's establishment.

Coin Highlights:

  • It arrives in a protective flip, a plastic tube of 20 coins, or Monster Box of 200 coins.
  • 7th coin in the Australian Rectangular Dragon Series.
  • Debut of King Charles III on the obverse.
  • Limited mintage of only 250,000 coins.
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver in BU condition.
  • Bears a face value of $1 (AUD) backed by the federal government of Australia.
King Charles III on the obverse.

On the obverse of the 2024 Australian Rectangular Silver Dragons depicts Charles III. This Dan Thorne design is the first effigy of Charles III on Australian coins. There is no crown on the head of the left-profile relief king.

The Perth Mint's Rectangular Dragon Coin Series has become one of its most well-liked in recent years. With the legal tender status of a silver coin, these rectangular silver coins have the appearance of a silver bar.

When it was first introduced in 2018, I was reluctant to purchase one. But because it contained a dragon, which is a symbol I really relate to (since I was born in the Lunar Calendar of the Fire Dragon), I bought it anyway.

And I have been buying them ever since.

I do like these dragons, I only have a couple. I hadn't realised the design changed each though...

Except for the bullion coin Kangaroo, all of the coins of the Perth Mint has a new design every year. Ah... you know it... you're from Australia, !LOL

It’s a good thing monument metals had the silver dragon in stock @silversaver888!👍😊
I wonder what the delay was caused by?
With such high detail, I can see that this very unique rectangular coin would be in very high demand

I think it was done on purpose. This year is the Lunar year of the dragon. If you recall, there were dragons galore at the start of the year. I think they strategized well, @silvertop !

This is the first year that the year date appears with the dragon. I think it is good They probably wanted a change with the new monarch.

They strategized well, sis! They waited for all the dragons to be out first, then brought their rectangular dragon coin much later.
!LUV ya sis. 🤗🌺❤️
I hope you are well.

Didn't know Australia had dragons😂😂

They look really nice!✨

No, they don't. The dragon is a Chinese dragon. I think that after the success of the dragon in Lunar I, Australia capitalized on the dragon design, and in 2018, they introduced the rectangular dragon coin.

Well I know they don't have dragons as a native historical animal...

I'm just shocked that they minted a dragon bar😂

Thought it's something that was exclusive to only China and Japan..

Those are pretty cool. I picked up some of the Dragons from APMEX when they came out at the beginning of the year. I was born in the year of the dragon so it is special to me, and this was my first one. Plus I wanted to get one for my nephew/godson.

You must be my age then, because I was born in the year of the dragon!!! You are the only one I have encountered in Hive who is also a Fire Dragon!

I didn't realize there was a designation, I guess it makes sense though. Yeah, I am in late 40's with an eye on retirement before too long. Teachers came back Monday, so maybe sooner rather than later!

That dragon makes me want to buy one, it's so well done! I wish they would remove the monorach and use a different design for the obverse. But you can't change tradition I suppose!
