Moon V Marvel, panel 96

The Real Superheroines of Hive Valley

a webcomic, by Matt S. Law

When DC launched the New 52, Shazam (which was what Billy Batson was now called in his superhero form instead of Captain Marvel, which is ridiculous because he would never be able to introduce himself to someone without getting hit by lightning and turning into someone else) he was able to shoot lightning. All the time, instead of just saying "Shazam" and then running away from the lightning in the sky so that it would hit whoever he was standing next to. Like he did to Superman in Kingdom Come.

If you've never read this graphic novel I highly recommend it. Similar to Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, except instead of taking place 10 years after Batman retires, it takes place 10 years or so after Superman calls it quits. Illustrated by Alex Ross, every page is a masterpiece. The story is amazing. Even so, it took me a couple of read-throughs to realize what Captain Marvel was doing here. Saying Shazam, then dodging the lightning.

Mary Marvel and Mindy Miracle did it to each other for a while during their fight. I figure, if she has the power of Zeus she should be able to shoot lightning without shouting out to the old wizard every time. So, Mary is officially being upgraded. Coincidentally, one of my "maybes" when I was searching through public domain superheroines for this comic was "Lightning Girl" who only has the ability to shoot lightning. Now, she is definitely out.

Boilerplate:
The Real Superheroines of Hive Valley is a webcomic about a reality television show following the lives of seven public domain superheroines that all live together in the same mansion in the elite community of Hive Valley.

You can read the series from the beginning ---> HERE.

Created in Clip Studio Paint Pro on my mobile art studio which is a Microsoft Surface Pro 7+. Here is the time lapse video:

You would think that it would take a while to adapt to a new power and you might shoot yourself in the foot at first. Maybe she's a quick learner.

I really need to read more of the old comics to see where these characters come from. My reading pile is big enough already though.

Yeah, like in Avengers: Endgame, when Cap picks up Mjolnir and is instantly using hammer-shield combo moves and pulling lightning from the sky. Still, I loved that scene.
