Lady Crane from the shadows with a perfect Miyagi-Do crane kick! It looks like she did it right, because it looked impossible for Cut Lass to defend against it. Of course, instead of crawling away on her face like Johnny Lawrence did, she just kind of moved her chin a bit. Also, Lady Crane's cane is a cane-sword, so she can use either the Crane Cane technique or the Crane Cane-Blade technique. Which are two similar but distinct styles of Kung-fu.

Last week I mentioned that while I am in Napa, I would try to snap a photo of a hot air balloon while I was here. Well, my first morning here, while taking Clancy for his morning constitutional, I saw one off in the distance, while I was lining up for a shot on that one, I heard the roar of a flame thrower (or whatever that fire-torch thing is that makes hot air for the balloon) directly above me. Couldn't get a very good shot from directly below it, so I yanked Clancy down the street for this most excellent photo op...
This is Clancy, the Labradoodle. Photo turned out pretty good considering I was shooting directly at the sun. But then the hot air balloon got even closer...
And eventually made an emergency landing on the street about three doors down (no Kryptonite).

Yes, this is the typical sort of exciting event that you can expect to happen in the life of a nomadic, pet-sitting cartoonist. By the way, don't "like" this video, YouTube never once gave me a nickel for any videos I've uploaded. Cheap bastards.

Those two Crane Cane styles are gold, now I’m picturing a dojo poster that says “flip blade, change stance.” If Kickman really has eight on deck, I’m betting misdirection and footwork over brute force. That balloon landing a few doors down sounds wild. Did Clancy take the burner roar in stride?
There are a crazy number of kung-fu styles. Monkey, Drunken Monkey, Drunken Monkey Staff... Crane Cane Sword is probably practiced by someone somewhere. Or maybe someone will be inspired to launch a new school. Clancy actually didn't seem bothered by the balloon. He is pretty chill except when it comes to squirrels, cats and German Shepherds.
Then it’s settled: Crane Cane Sword is canon now. Picture a style built on bait-and-switch footwork, cane-tip pecks to pull the gaze, then a sudden wing-cut from the blade. Kickman could steal that play when he’s swarmed. As for Clancy, squirrels are final bosses, cats are minibosses, and a looming German Shepherd is the optional raid.
Crane cane confusion? Lots going on in this strip. Some heroes rely on too many gadgets.
A balloon landed in a street in my home town recently, but I wasn't around to see it. We have had them come down where I live now, but that has more fields. They need to avoid any overhead wires. I've never been up in a balloon.

I've also never been up in one. I have been up close to them at the Balloon Fiesta in New Mexico. If I wasn't holding Clancy on a leash I would have run over to help jump on the basket when they touched down.
