What exactly is money: is money really just the paper we own and carry around or there's more to it?
Different people have their own opinion about what money is, although most people see it as the Dollar or Euro in paper form we own and trade with but is that really all there is to money?? Well in my own opinion I don't think that's what money really is I'd like to share my opinion on what money is but before then let's look at the history of money.
In ancient times there was nothing like Dollar or Euro so how did the people of old trade?
First they practiced a trading system called TRADE BY BARTER (Bartering): In ancient times, people exchanged goods and services directly without using a medium of exchange there was no form of money at the time trades were carried out by exchanging goods. For instance I have Rice you have Beans, I need Beans and you need rice since you have what I need and I have what you need all we have to do is exchange with each other. Bartering had limitations, e.g you might have something that no one needs and you might need something that no one has at the time.
After the Bartering system came the Commodity-based currencies: As societies grew, commodity-based currencies like cattle, grains, and precious metals emerged. These commodities were valued for their rarity, durability, and portability in this era people got paid for their jobs with commodities.
After commodities came the era of Coins: The introduction of coins made trade easier and more efficient. Coins were minted from precious metals like gold, silver, and copper each coin had its own value so there was no longer need for the Bartering or commodity system of trading.
Next was Fiat currency and Paper money: Fiat currency is money that has value solely because the government decrees it, and Paper money was introduced as a convenient alternative to coins it is easy to carry around and more convenient. Initially, paper money was backed by gold or silver reserves.
Then came Digital payments and Cryptocurrency : digital payments are just online means of making payments such as credit cards and online banking, and this new payment method transformed the way people transact. Meanwhile Cryptocurrency like Bitcoin and Ethereum on the other hand have introduced decentralized, digital forms of money. These currencies use cryptography for secure transactions.
The Impact of this decentralized technology on Money has driven the evolution of money, enabling faster, more secure, and more convenient transactions. As technology continues to advance, we can expect further innovations in the world of money.
So in my own opinion I don't think money is just our coins, fiat, commodities, or even Cryptocurrency I think money is anything that has value and can be exchanged for something of equal value.
Thanks for stopping by.
