[EN/PT-BR] Public health and the option to go on strike.

The healthcare sector in Brazil is something that is perhaps normal in any other country: the public network is a save-yourself-if-you-can situation and the private network is usually much calmer. Normally, everything related to the public sector here is complex and complicated. The public network is called SUS (Unified Health System) and well, it is pure chaos for people and probably for doctors too. The biggest problem here is corruption, so a lot of the money that should go to public agencies ends up not going, and so everything becomes a real challenge.

I don't have many friends in the health field to ask questions, but I have a friend who works in this field, only she herself, and I remember her always saying that things are complicated, with a lack of resources, delayed salaries, crazy work schedules and many, many shifts. It's really hard, actually, all of this, she's told me this a lot and the most complicated part for anyone who works is not getting paid on time, so this tends to make us unmotivated, sad and even angry about everything, taking it out on our patients and on our daily lives.

Does going on strike solve anything? Sometimes yes and sometimes no. I think that in the end, no public sector strike is 100% supported, because some civil servants do not support it for fear of reprisals later. I have heard that this happens, because my mother works in education and she always tells me about some things that happen in relation to strikes and complaints from civil servants. So, it is good to fight for your rights, but this can have consequences later, such as, for example, you becoming a target of your superiors and things like that.

Strikes supported by the media tend to be successful, and they often bring results, yes, although the population suffers even more with the strikes, after all, they will be left without doctors and nurses in the health centers and getting access to the private network is complicated, everything is usually very expensive, whether it is individual care or through the health plan. In any case, the servers have many meetings and conversations before deciding whether to actually go on strike or not. I think that in the end, we should fight for our rights, but it's complicated that the population suffers due to the lack of professionals.

People's general view is that our health is in the ICU, always like that, things around here are always like that, a struggle. Everyone jokes and makes fun of the SUS, like, if I get sick and go to the public health system, I can already consider myself dead, because it will take so long to see me or there will be a lack of resources, the system will be down and once again it will be a useless trip to the health center. A strike can make a difference, yes, but it has to be very well thought out, whether it is worth it, what the consequences will be and so on. Usually it works, the employees get a raise and then everything goes back to normal.

O setor da saúde no Brasil é algo que talvez seja normal em qualquer outro país: a rede pública é um salve-se quem puder e a rede privada costuma ser bem mais tranquila. Normalmente tudo por aqui que é relacionado ao setor publico é complexo e complicado. A rede pública se chama SUS (sistema único de saúde) e bem, é o caos puro para as pessoas e provavelmente para os médicos também. Aqui o maior problema é a corrupção, então muito do dinheiro que deveria ir para os órgãos públicos acabam que não vão e assim, tudo se torna um verdadeiro desafio.

Não tenho muitos amigos da área da saúde, para fazer as perguntas, mas tenho uma amiga que trabalha nessa área, somente ela mesmo, e lembro dela sempre dizer que as coisas estão complicadas, com falta de recursos, salários atrasados, horários de trabalho malucos e muitos e muitos plantões. É bem sofrido, na verdade, tudo isso, ela já me contou muito isso e a parte mais complicada para qualquer pessoa que trabalha, é não receber o seu salário em dia, então isso costuma deixar a gente desmotivado, triste e até nervoso com tudo, descontando em seus pacientes e no dia a dia.

Fazer greve resolve? Às vezes sim e às vezes não, acho que no fim das contas nenhuma greve do setor publico é aderida 100%, pois alguns servidores não apoiam por medo de represarias depois, isso eu já vi dizer que acontece, pois minha mãe é da área da educação e ela sempre me conta algumas coisas que acontecem em relação a greves e reclamações dos servidores públicos. Então, é bom você lutar por seus direitos, mas isso pode trazer consequências depois, como, por exemplo, você se tornar um alvo dos seus superiores e coisa do tipo.

As greves com o apoio da mídia costumam dar certo, muitas vezes elas trazem resultados, sim, apesar de que a população sofre mais ainda com as greves, afinal, vão ficar sem médicos e enfermeiros nos postos de saúde e conseguir ir para a rede privada é complicado, geralmente é tudo bem caro, seja um atendimento individual ou pelo plano de saúde. De qualquer forma, os servidores têm muitas reuniões e conversas antes de decidir realmente entrar em greve ou não. Acho que no fim das contas, devemos lutar por nossos direitos, mas é complicado que a população fica sofrendo com a ausência de profissionais.

A visão geral das pessoas é que a nossa saúde está na UTI, sempre assim, as coisas por aqui são sempre assim, uma luta. Todo mundo faz brincadeiras e deboches sobre o SUS, do tipo, se eu ficar doente e ir para a saúde pública, eu já posso me considerar morto, porque vão demorar tanto para me atender ou vai faltar recurso, sistema fora do ar e mais uma vez será uma ida em vão ao posto de saúde. Greve pode fazer a diferença, sim, mas tem que ser muito bem pensada, se vale a pena, quais serão as consequências e tudo mais. Geralmente funciona, os funcionários ganham um aumento e assim tudo volta a normalidade.
